The man before me was slender and elegant, his complexion pale. A small mole at the corner of his eye made him look both ethereal and striking. He looked completely different from the last time I’d seen him.
I took in his appearance, and he studied me in return. His dark eyes were calm but unreadable.

“Ms. Jensen, I’ve heard so much about you. You’re truly as stunning as they say. His voice was low, with an amused lilt.
I offered him a smile
“Mr. Holt, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you. You’re as refined as ever.”

He chuckled, an undercurrent in his laughter.
“The plum blossoms you sent the other day,” he gestured to a plant on his desk, “have just bloomed.”
I raised my wrist, the rubies sparkling.
“And your bracelet arrived. I appreciate it.”
I leaned in close, admiring the blooms, and let him see the bracelet up close.
Irested my hand lightly on his shoulder. He stiffened, and I simply smiled.
