Chapter 8
Rosie smiled softly, reaching out to ruffle my hair in a familiar, comforting gesture.
“Don’t worry. I don‘ t take that girl‘ s words seriously.”
Her gaze softened. “I only trust you.
I stood frozen, my face heating up, embarrassment creeping up my neck.
Rosie suddenly winced, holding her hand in mock pain, her eyes softening as she looked at me.
“But my hand really hurts now,” she said, her voice feigning weakness. “I might be unable to drive or cook for a few days. I‘ 11 need someone to take care of me until it
heals…”
Despite her usual commanding presence, she sounded almost childlike, and my heart melted at the sight.
I couldn’t help but mimic her patient tone

as she gently patted her head.
“Alright, alright, I’ll take care of you for the next few days. Just don’t go overboard with the drama, okay?”
A smile tugged at Rosie‘ s lips, her eyes twinkling with warmth.
“Then I’ll thank you in advance, hubby,” she teased.
The following days passed smoothly as we spent time together, the quiet comfort of her presence making everything else disappear.
Our personalities meshed seamlessly, like two puzzle pieces finally fitting together. We knew exactly how to understand and accommodate one another. In such a short time, it felt as though we were in perfect harmony–like soulmates, destined to be.

But just a few days later, as I was lost in that contentment, a friend‘ s message shattered the moment. [Wyatt, you‘ ve finally won Kendra over after all those years of chasing! I heard your big day is coming up soon. Can’t wait to celebrate at your wedding!]
The Jewett family, being as influential as they were, hadn’t yet revealed the official date of our wedding.

Kendra.
Stunned, I opened Kendra‘ s blocked account to check the message again, trying
to make sense of the confusion that
suddenly clouded my mind.
