Chapter 6
The excruciating pain made each second drag on unbearably. I could barely speak, my voice a faint whisper.
“Ethan.”

glance.
I didn’t know when Ethan had realized something was wrong, but he was holding me tightly and rushing me toward the emergency room.
I could hear his heavy breathing and the thunderous beating of his heart.
He was running so fast that it made me uncomfortable, and I wanted to tell him to slow down, but I couldn’t open my mouth. I felt so tired as if I could fall asleep any second.
He looked down at me, his forehead drenched in sweat, his face pale.
“Don’t sleep! Stay awake!”
If it were Samuel saying this, I would have ignored him and insisted on sleeping, but it was Ethan. Ethan, who always carried a handkerchief.
He had once said he wanted to make money to marry a wife, and I certainly didn’t want him to lose his salary because of me.
So, I forced myself to stay awake, but it was so hard. My mind was foggy, my body was colder, and my eyelids were getting heavier. Eventually, I fell asleep.
When I woke up, I was back at the manor. The butler told me Samuel had returned, probably worried about the incident getting out and affecting the stock price of the Everett Group.
So, he had brought me home to rest that same day.
I forced a pale smile.
Indeed, how could I possibly compare to the Everett Group’s stock?
The sun outside was shining brightly, and as I looked at the flowers blooming in the yard, I suddenly felt an overwhelming urge to
I wanted so much to live openly under the sun, but instead, Samuel had trapped me in that little dark room with no way

The door opened, and Samuel crouched down in front of me, handing me some pills and water.
I swatted them away, spilling both the pills and the water.
“What are you pretending to be, Samuel? How disgusting.”
Samuel’s fingers were dripping water, and he looked at me, his expression dark.
“If you’d taken your medicine properly, none of this would have happened. You brought this on yourself.”
He was actually very handsome, with charming eyes, but unfortunately, he always carried an air of hostility that ruined his good looks.
“You admit it, don’t you? It’s you, right? Samuel, you’re so ruthless.”
Samuel left for another trip abroad.
I stayed in bed for half a month, with doctors visiting me every day. They all wore

A few days later, I heard from a friend that Samuel had broken up with that actress. Apparently, it was quite a scandal, and he even had her
blacklisted.
I stared at the blooming roses outside, expressionless, holding my phone.
“Oh, and then what happened?”
“What else? That actress‘ career is ruined forever.”
She then asked if I had returned to the country and wanted to meet up. I lied and said I hadn’t
Hanging up, I returned to bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Night finally fell.
As usual, I lay on the lounge chair in the yard.
“Ethan, did they punish you?”
No response.
“Ah, it’s all my fault. What if I made it so you can’t marry a wife?
“Ethan, I…
“My child is gone.”
A gentle breeze blew, and I caught the familiar scent of magnolia.
I smiled faintly and continued to gaze at the sky.
“Actually, it’s for the best. Being my child isn’t a good thing at all.”
“It’s my fault. I didn’t protect you.”
Ethan suddenly spoke. I thought he must have eaten something that irritated his throat, as his voice was hoarse.
“What’s it got to do with you? You can’t make any decisions.”
He fell silent again.
I looked at the sky, trying to continue my search.

“Do you think the child would be one of those stars? Maybe that one? But it can’t be. My child is too small and not bright enough, right?
“I think it should be the one next to it. It’s small, not very shiny.”
“Ethan, my child, they’ve gone back to the sky…”
I finally couldn’t hold back, and tears fell in big drops. I gritted my teeth, trying to stay silent, because if anyone heard, they’d blame Ethan for not protecting me.
Ethan took two steps forward, and I could reach his waist with my hand. My heart shattered in an instant, and I wrapped my arms around his waist, burying my head in his chest, sobbing uncontrollably.
My cries were so loud and my tears so hot that they stained his suit.
I felt embarrassed, wanting to clean it up, but he said it was fine. It wasn’t dirty.
