The company’s meteoric rise was a testament to his tireless efforts and unwavering vision.
A bittersweet smile graced his lips, his eyes clouded with a hint of sadness. “Amber, it’s been a while since you’ve called me ‘brother.“”

From that day forward, I never called him ‘brother‘ again.
Shedding the layers of memory, I turned to him and said, “Don’t call me Amber. It makes me sick.”
Chris‘ eyes widened in disbelief, the memory of his hurtful rejection flashing before him.
He opened his mouth, ready to respond.
Before he could utter a word, the door swung open, revealing Sharon’s poised figure.
“Chris, weren’t we supposed to attend that event together? What are you doing…”
Her gaze fell upon me, seated in the office, and her voice abruptly trailed off.
Chris, noticing her presence, instinctively glanced at my expression, seeking any hint of reaction.

I remained indifferent, ignoring their unspoken exchange, and continued eating my meal.
Chris‘ brow furrowed in confusion. “What
are you doing here?” he asked, his voice laced with annoyance.
Sharon forced a smile, her expression strained. “Well, it’s not like you’ve been returning my calls lately.”
Sharon had been calling Chris incessantly these past few days.
Each time, he would blatantly hang up on her right in front of me.
Chris rubbed his temples, his voice laced with exasperation. “I’ve been swamped with work lately. Why don’t you head home for now, and we can catch up later?”
Sharon, however, had no intention of leaving. Instead, she plopped down into the chair Chris had just vacated.
She picked his tableware and declared,

Her eyes gleamed with undisguised malice.
Chris‘ recent lack of communication had sent her into a frenzy.
I couldn’t hold back my bluntness. “I’m afraid I do mind. Your presence is rather nauseating.”
Sharon’s forced smile crumbled, her gaze darting nervously towards Chris. “It seems I’ve chosen an inopportune time for my visit.”
She was convinced Chris would take her side.
But to her surprise, Chris nodded in agreement. “I’ll let Mason take you home.”
After Sharon’s departure, Chris rushed to explain, “There’s nothing going on between us. If it weren’t for her pleading with your parents to save me when I was a kid, I might not be here today.”

I was taken aback.
Was she claiming she had convinced her parents to rescue Chris?
He continued, “As long as you’re willing, I’ll announce our engagement at the Walker Group banquet in a few days.”
His eyes held a depth of emotion as he gazed at me, “Amber, please give me another chance. Let me remarry you, give you the grand wedding you deserve.”
I firmly declined.
What was missed was missed.
Moreover, Aaron stood between us, a
barrier I could never forgive him for
