Chapter 5
“Sophie, have you been in this position for so long that you really think you deserve it?”
I asked, my tone flat.
Sophie was about to explode with anger, but then suddenly froze.
It seemed she had finally recalled some important details.
Back in college, I had already started my entrepreneurial journey, and Mark was my first investor.
After we made our first significant profit, we expanded the company, and Mark introduced me to the current board members.
Because I had achieved success, the board
was eager to invest in my vision.
As the business grew, I became a prominent figure at school.

With my decent looks and charm, I
attracted many admirers.
Sophie was one of my apprentices and a
contender for my affection.
Her stunning beauty and ambition brought us together naturally.
Once I committed to someone, I was all in; I treated her with utmost care.
Even after we married, I wanted her to have a good reputation in front of her family, so I allowed her to take the chairperson position.
Ethan had always been part of our lives, but I initially didn’t suspect anything because I had seen him kiss his boyfriend.
Recently, however, I learned that the scene he showed me was staged; he had always been straight.
When I asked Sophie to keep her distance from Ethan, she dismissed my concerns. and accused me of being petty.

Since I was busy with field research, I didn’t press the issue further.
When I returned, however, I found out Sophie was pregnant with Ethan’s child.
Regardless of whether it was artificial insemination or not, I couldn’t accept it.
In terms of company shares, I owned 65%, while Sophie held none–not because I wanted to keep her out but because the board only trusted me with control.
Thus, even though I had always held the title of design director, I was, in reality, the one who held the power in the company.
“Kyle, you’re just a design director; I really don’t know what you’re pretending,” Ethan suddenly shouted again.
He turned to Sophie and demanded, “Why aren’t you saying anything? Get security to take him out; I don’t want to see him!”
“Shut up!”
Sophie yelled back.

Ethan stood there in shock. “Sophie, how can you yell at me?”
Ignoring him, Sophie looked at me with tears in her eyes and pleaded, “Kyle, I’m
sorry! Let’s not get divorced; please give me another chance.”
I turned away and addressed the security guards, “Take them out immediately and bar them from entering the company from
now on.”
After the commotion settled down and we finished the meeting, Mark and the others lingered.
They were all long–time friends who cared about my personal life.
As the one in charge of the company, my marital issues could significantly impact. our business.
“Don’t worry; this won’t affect the company,” I said with a smile.

manage–let’s get moving.”
With that reassurance, the board members. seemed somewhat relieved.
When I returned home that evening, I opened the door to find a group of people inside.
Sophie and Ethan were there, along with a middle–aged couple–Sophie’s parents.
It suddenly dawned on me that the code for this apartment was Sophie’s birthday, and I had forgotten to change it.
“You still know how to come home?”
Sophie’s father demanded sternly.
I tossed my suit jacket to my assistant and walked over to the liquor cabinet, pouring myself a drink as I said, “What? Your daughter is pregnant with another man’s child, and you come here to blame me?”
At my words, Sophie’s parents‘ expressions darkened.

Sophie looked pale, her eyes filled with desperation as she gazed at me.
Ethan, however, wore a defiant look, no longer pretending to be weak.
Sophie’s father slammed his hand on the table. “I believe Sophie has already explained everything to you. Ethan was under a lot of pressure, which is why he resorted to this. Sophie is too kind–hearted; how could she not help him?”
I turned my gaze to Sophie’s mother and said, “How would you feel if you were pregnant with someone else’s child? Would your husband be okay with that?”
Sophie’s mother, who was about to retort, suddenly turned pale.
Sophie’s father shouted back, “What
nonsense are you spouting? My wife would never bear a child for someone else!”
As soon as he said it, he realized he had made a mistake.

“Such double standards?”
“My wife can have a child for someone else, but yours cannot?”
I shook my head with a smile and pointed toward the door. “Enough. It seems you’re just here to stir up trouble. I can’t be bothered to argue with you; you’d better leave before I lose my temper.”
“Kyle, how can you speak to your elders like that?”
“Regardless of anything, they are your in- laws; how can you treat them this way?”
Ethan yelled at me.
“Let me explain something to you,” I said.
“Sophie is pregnant with your child; even if it’s artificial insemination, any decent person would know she is in the wrong.”
“So even if these two came here today to apologize for their daughter, I wouldn’t accept it.”

“What’s ridiculous is that they are here to blame me.”
“I also want to ask you two: have I spoiled you so much over the years that you think I’m someone who can be easily manipulated?”
“I bought you a villa, cars, and spent hundreds of thousands on beauty salon memberships. Even the money for Sophie’s father’s visits to clubs came from me.”
“I give a dog a chicken leg on the street, and the next time we meet, it still wags its tail at me.”
“But after all I’ve done for you, you treat me like a dog?”
I pointed toward the door again. “There are eight bodyguards outside; you’d better leave before I call them in to throw you out.”
