The sound of water in the bathroom continued for a long while, and Bella knew he was particular about cleanliness. Sure enough, he smelled great when he emerged, but his expression was still sour. “I’m going out for a bit. Aren’t you going to sleep? You should get some rest.”

She finally realized he had just insulted her as he closed the door behind him. Was “idiot” the best he could come up with to express his anger?
