Chapter 9
There was no need for questions; Lucian had already concluded that I must be losing my sanity. How could I, who had devoted eight long years to loving him, always the obedient and understanding partner, ever strike him over someone so inconsequential?
It had to be a delusion, or so he presumed. Yet, as he looked up, he saw me gently cradling Rigel’s hand, our fingers intertwined as I whispered, “Does it hurt? Do you need to go to the hospital?”
Lucian stood frozen, stunned.
His eyes reddened, swimming with disbelief.
Determined not to be defeated, Ophelia picked herself up off the ground, her jealousy and resentment now unmasked.
With a furious finger aimed at me, she shouted, “You shameless woman! Lucian

dreamed only of marrying you, yet you‘ ve been playing the field with this man!”
In the past, I had tolerated Ophelia‘ s manipulation and lies in front of Lucian for various reasons. But now, as she openly slandered Rigel as a home–wrecker, I felt a fire ignite inside me.
I let out a light chuckle, removed my high heel, and strode purposefully toward her. Without a word of warning, I did something that left everyone speechless.
I struck her face again and again with the dirty sole of my heel. Ophelia’s eyes. widened in disbelief as she instinctively tried to retreat. Still, I had anticipated this, gripping her hair tightly to keep her in place.
Her mouth swelled and bruised, and pain coursed through her as she screamed and sobbed uncontrollably.

Lucian, pleading for help. To my amusement, he remained frozen, watching her cries fall on deaf ears,
After I tossed her to the ground like the worthless trash she was, Lucian eagerly reached for the high heel, half–kneeling, as he attempted to slip it back onto my foot.
Savannah,” Lucian begged desperation seeping into his words. “Please, don‘ t be upset. I finally see things clearly–I know Ophelia twisted everything between us. I’ll never give her the time of day again, I swear. I’ll fire her the moment I return. So please, don’t walk away. I’m sorry. I’ll do anything.”
My gaze shifted to Ophelia, who collapsed on the ground, her face drained of color. Without a word, I slid off my other heel and hurled it at him. “You could fire a hundred of her, Lucian, but it wouldn’t change a thing between us. We‘ re finished.”
I turned, ready to leave, but my dress. snagged. I glanced back, finding his hand

“Don’t leave… at least tell me where I
went wrong,” Lucian choked out, his voice trembling. “Why are you so determined to end this? Is it really for him?”
His face twisted in disbelief. “Savannah, how could you be so heartless…”
My voice dripped with disdain. “Let go.”
He shook his head, voice barely a whisper, holding on as if for dear life. “Savannah, look at me. Look me in the eyes and say you don’t love me anymore–say it’s Rigel. Only then will I believe you‘ re done with me.”
I took a deep breath and did as he asked, meeting his devastated gaze, his red- rimmed eyes swimming with tears as if his world was about to shatter.
