I stole a glance at the landlord, who was anxiously hoping the sale wouldn’t slip through his fingers. Just as I was about to hang up, Lucian‘ s tone softened, drawing me back in.
“Savannah,” he began, “I know you‘ re upset because I forgot your birthday. I admit that was my mistake. When I return from taking Ophelia abroad for her treatment, I promise I’ll make it up to you.”
After absorbing his words in silence, I replied coolly, “You’ve got it all wrong. I’m not upset, and I don‘ t need any compensation. Just understand this: we’re already broken up.”
After hanging up, I returned the phone to the landlord and asked him to block that
number if it ever called again.
Once I signed the purchase agreement and

completed the paperwork, I held the vibrant red property certificate for my new home, a proud achievement in my hands.
I took a snapshot to celebrate the occasion before heading out to meet a friend for a long–awaited outing. When I returned home around ten, I offered to take my father’s dog for a stroll.
As I swung open the glass door to my building, a tall, familiar figure blocked my way. It was Lucian, looking travel–worn and
tense.
“Savannah,” he began, his voice tinged with an urgency that made my heart race.
I tightened my grip on the dog leash and took a step back, my expression hardening.
“Don’t come any closer.”
The indifference etched across my face. seemed to sting him, yet Lucian brushed. aside my words, his brow furrowing as he closed the distance between us.
Just as he opened his mouth to speak, my

dog sprang into action, barking fiercely and snapping protectively at him.
Unfazed, Lucian advanced until I found myself cornered against the wall, cloaked in shadows, his cold gaze pinning me down.
“We need to talk,” he insisted, his voice low and commanding. “I don’t want any misunderstandings lingering between
us.”
I frowned, shaking my head defiantly.
“There’s nothing to talk about.”
With his fist pressed firmly against the wall, he effectively trapped me.
“Savannah, have you forgotten that we’re on the verge of marriage? Do you think you can simply dismiss me with a casual breakup? What do you take met for?”
His questions, clenched between gritted teeth, left me utterly speechless. I refused to waste even a single word on him.

I made two attempts to push him away, but he stood his ground like an immovable
statue.
The dog, barking fiercely, activated several lights along the hallway, drawing the attention of curious people.
Not wanting to disrupt my parents‘ peace, I decided to relent.
Half an hour later.
In a coffee shop that was open 24/7, Lucian stood at the counter and ordered two cups of Americano. He placed one of the unsweetened iced cups right next to me.
“Savannah,” he said, a hint of
amusement dancing in his voice, “see? I actually do remember your preferences.”
I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.

We kept black coffee at home solely because Lucian preferred it; the ice was

merely a necessary antidote to temper the harshness of my taste.
Though only two days had slipped by, Lucian had taken on an unusually chatty demeanor.
Before I could respond, he continued, his words tumbling out in a rush. “About your birthday, I truly apologize. I got so caught up in work that I miscalculated the date and thought it was next month. But I did pick up that gift you wanted.”
With that, he produced a small velvet box from his pants pocket. Noticing my reluctance to open it, he pursed his lips. and, with a decisive flick of his fingers, opened the box himself to reveal a
stunning pair of sparkling crystal earrings, their brilliance catching the light.
