Chapter 73
“What’s wrong. Lorraine? Did I somehow offend you by simply checking in on you and your child?” Cassian’s tone was laced with mockery, his eyes narrowing with amusement as he spoke. There was something in his voice that irked Lorraine beyond reason, something about the way he treated her like she was a joke.
Lorraine felt her face grow hot as anger surged through her, the blood rushing to her checks. She didn’t know what Cassian was truly after, but it unsettled her how easily he brought her sons into the conversation, as though he had any right. The way he so casually mentioned her sons made her stomach churn, and despite her best efforts to stay calin, her body tensed, ready for a confrontation.
Her employees, gathered around the room, looked on in confusion, sensing the tension but not fully understanding the depth of what was happening. Lorraine was known as a patient, kind boss, someone who rarely raised her voice or showed anger, even when mistakes were made. To see her reacting this way, with her composure slipping, was out of character. It left them whispering among themselves, unsure of what to think about the situation unfolding before them.
But in Lorraine’s eyes, none of that mattered. She barely registered the p
presence of her employees. All she could see was Cassan’s deceitful, manipulative face, a face that had haunted her for years. Every nerve in her benly felt like it was submerged in ice, cold and rigid, but inside, her blood was boiling. A volcano of rage was threatening to erupt. The intensity of these clashing emotions overwhelmed her, and she knew she had to act before she lost control completely.
The room, the people–none of it existed for her in that moment. It was just her and Cassian, a man she despised more than anyone else in the world. How dare he speak about her son so casually? As if he had ever been a part of their lives, as if he had any place to comment on her child. The sheer audacity of it was infuriating:
“Can you just stop, Cassiant Lorraine’s voice cracked like a whip, sharp and biting, her patience long gone. “What do you think you’re doing here? Do you want me to call the police on you again? Is that what you’re trying to push me to do?!”
Cassian chuckled softly, raising both of his hands in mock surrender, like a criminal caught in the act but unrepentant. His smirk widened, only adding to Lorraine’s frustration. “Whoa, whoa, relax. I’m not here to cause any trouble. I’m genuinely just checking up on you, nothing more
“Bullshar” Lorraine’s voice echoed through the room, the force of her anger causing everyone nearby to flinch. Her words were like a physical blow, cutting through the air. “Do you really think I’d believe that you came here just to check on me? What’s your new game this time, huh? Do you want me to actually have you arrested this time? I’m not bluffing. Cassian!”
Cassian’s expression darkened, the smirk faltering for the briefest moment before he quickly composed himself. “Why are you so mad?” he asked, his voice quieter, almost soft, as though he were genuinely confused. “I get it we didn’t end things well between us, but everything I did was because I loved you. Even when we were kids, Lorraine, I loved you” His voice grew more dramatic, his eyes shimmering with fake sincerity- “In fact, I still love you now…
Cassian’s words hung in the air, purposely left unfinished to add to the theatrics. The people around them gasped, their eyes widening in surprise. They began to murmar amongst themselves, speculating on the nature of their relationship.”
Lorraine could feel her heart pounding in her chest, her hands trembling with rage. How dare he? How dare he lie so effortlessly in front of everyone! The nerve of him to claim love when all he ever did was hurt her. People were always too eager in believe lies, especially ones as tantalizing as this
She had to stop him before he spun this into something even worse. “Don’t you dare twist the past to make yourself look like a victim, she hissed, stepping closer to him, her voice low but filled with venom. “You say you loved me! You were nothing but a predator, Cassian. You took every clunce to touch me when I wasn’t looking. Is that what you call love! Her voice rose with each word, the anger bubbling over. “Maybe you should look up the meaning of love because it’s not this. It’s not what you’ve done to me. You didn’t love me. You were trying to control me, to scare me
Her words hung in the air like a bomb that had just gone off. The atmosphere in the room shifted, the tension thickening as everyone around them processed what Lorraine had said. The curious looks that had been directed at her moments before were now aimed at Cassian, filled with suspicion and disgust.
Cassian froze, his eyes narrowing as he processed Lorraine’s accusations. He hadn’t expected her to be so direct, so fierce. For a moment, he was silent, just staring at her, the shock evident in his gaze. Lorraine stood her ground, her body trembling from the intensity of the confrontation. She knew she was shaking, but it didn’t matter. She had to stand firm against him, had to protect herself.
And then, suddenly, Cassian laughed. A cold, harsh sound that sent shivers down Lorraine’s spine. He lowered his head, the laughter fading quiet chuckle, his expression shifting to one of false sadness, like he was playing a part in some tragic play
“I didn’t know that’s how you saw me, Lorraine,” he said, his voice hoarse and low, the fake sadness practically dripping from his tone. He bent down, picking up the flowers that had been scattered on the floor during their argument, his movements slow and deliberate, as if he were truly heartbroken. “I didn’t realize my attempts to get your attention would be seen as harassment. I thought I thought you might still care, even just a Intle. He looked up at her, his eyes shining with crocodile tears. “I just didn’t know how che to make you notice me.”
Lorraine felt her stomach turn at the sight. The audacity of this man was staggering. He was so convincing, so manipulative, that for a split second, she almost believed him. But she knew better. She knew Cassian’s tricks, and she wasn’t about to fall for them again.

Chapter 73
“Save your act for someone else, Cassian,” Lorraine said coldly, her voice steady now. I’m done with you. I don’t care what kind of sols come up with. I’m not going to fall for it. Not this time?
Cassian straightened up, the sadness in his expression flickering, replaced by something darker, more dangerous. His eyes narrowed Lorraine, his jaw tightening. For a moment, neither of them spoke, the tension between them crackling like static electricity.
