Chapter 65
“Staring
g off into the distance- Not really looking at anything-”
Lorraine slowly returned to reality as she heard Vicky and Nisha singing a teasing song while they were ironing e
clothes. The rhythmic sound of the iron glading over fabric was soothing, yet it did line to clear the muddled thoughts swirling in her mind. She rolled her eyes at their antics, feeling a slight smile tig at her lips despite her distraction. It was hard to resist their infections energy, but a weight sat heavily in her chest.
“I don’t know about you guys, she muttered, realizing die was supposed to be doing something at her desk. With a sigh, she turned her attention. back to her sketches, focusing on little dresses designed for her twin boys, Lucin and Larian. Each stroke of her pencil was a gentle reminder of her creativity, something she cherished, but today it felt clouded by other worries
it seems like you see a lot of things we don’t. What are you thinking about?” Vicky asked, her voice laced with curiosity:
“Nothing!” Lorraine quickly denied, not wanting in share the tangled thoughts that had been nagging at her for days. She was aware that her sisters had a knack for sensing when she was troubled.
“Come on sis! I bet you’re just thinking about that handsome Wayne!”
“Aviieee Boss is growing up” Nisha teased, laughter bubbling in her voice
Lorraine pressed her forehead, stifling a laugh at their playful banter. You guys are crazy. Can you just focus on what you’re doing and not bother
“Hmp! Boss doesn’t want to share. Vicky pouted, crossing her arms playfully. Lorraine loved the light–hearted reasing, yet it didn’t quite lift the weight on her heart.
“The that”
ver,” Lorraine conchided the conversation, but inside, her thoughts were still tangled.
“Tsk! You just want gossip. Fine, whatever,”
What truly troubled her was how Lucio and Lucian referred to Wayne as “papa” The first time they had done it, she felt a jolt of discomfort. It was too soon, too intimate, and it still felt uncomfortable. The thought tightened her chest each time it crossed her mind. She didn’t want to tell them to stop; that could upset them, and they were still so innocent. They seemed happy, and who was she to disrupt that joy?
Every time she considered how they felt without a father figure in their lives, her heart ached. They had once asked her if they had a dad, and when she said no, they had never pressed further. The boys had accepted her answer, never inquiring about his absence or why he wasn’t with them. Since that day, Lucio and Lucian had stopped asking about their dad, but Lorraine could see their longing in their eyes during quiet moments.
Yet lately, it seemed they were beginning to recognize Wayne as their father. Lorraine couldn’t be certain, but they appeared happier, their laughter ringing through the house more often, and they no longer complained when she said she was busy and couldn’t play with them
A heavy sigh escaped her lips as she pondered this.
Wayne had told her not to think about it too much, but she couldn’t help herself. Why was it okay for him to let them call him “Uncle Dad? Didn’t he worry that people might think he was a family man! After all, he was still a teenager. That could turn off the girls who liked him, who found him charming and attractive.
And then there was Callisto. He had left to help his father manage the company, promising Lorraine he’d visit often whenever he could. Yet despite everything that had happened the tension, the unresolved feelings–be still acted like her husband and the boys‘ father. Why did he feel the need to keep up that churade! Did he really think he could just step in and out of their lives whenever it suited him! It was frustrating and confusing. constant battle between heart and mind.
“Ate Lorraine! Ate Lorraine! Ate Lorraine Yuna burst into the room like a whirlwind. Excitement was written all over her face when her eyes met Lorraine’s “Ale Lorraine! They’re here!”
“Lorraine furrowed her brow, puzzled. “Who’s here?”
“Who?” Vicky chimed in, her curiosity piqued.
Yuna pointed outside. The ones I told you about last time! Shanlee and her boss! They’re looking for you!”
“Oh?” Lorraine’s lips parted slightly as she slowly stood up, setting her pencil and sketchbook aside. She could feel a strange flutter in her stomach -excitement mingled with apprehension.
“Come on, Vicky. Nisha! They’re so handsome! Yuna beckoned to the two, her enthusiasm infectious.
“Weech? No way!”
