Chapter 5
Callisto angrily threw his cellphone in the car after failing to contact Lorraine. His foot slammed down on the accelerator, the road ahead blurring into a tunnel as he raced along the highway. His long fingers gripped the steering wheel tightly, teeth grinding as he pictured Lorraine in his mind.
She had signed the divorce papers without telling him about their child!
He deserved to know. He had every right to know! And what exactly did Lorraine plan to do with their unborn child? Keep it away, hide it, and not introduce it to him? For how long?
Unable to accept the thought, Callisto arrived at Lorraine’s nanny’s house, slammed the car door, and walked briskly through the front yard, pounding on the door repeatedly.
“Lorraine! Lorraine, I know you’re in there! Come out, we need to talk!” he shouted.
Lorraine had nowhere else to go but to her nanny who raised her, so even though she wasn’t responding to his texts and calls, he knew where to find her.
“Callisto?!” The door swung open, revealing Mona with a mix of shock and annoyance on her face. “What are you doing here?!”
“Where’s Lorraine?” he asked, losing his usual composure.
“Are you serious?” Mona’s face crumpled. “What for, really?” she napped, glaring at him angrily. “If I once held you in high regard, now you’re just a big nuisance to me, young man. After what you’ve done to Lorraine, do you think I’d allow you to speak with her? Your divorce has been settled, hasn’t it? So what more do you need from her? Isn’t the hurt you caused her enough? Do you have something more to pursue? Why not just say it to my face so I can retaliate for her?!”
“Mona,” he took a deep, heavy breath and stated what he had learned, seriously. “I know Lorraine is pregnant right now. So we need to settle things between us.”
He saw her sudden shock. “How do you… her eyebrows furrowed “What does it matter to you? Pregnant or not, you two are done, so stay out of it! Wayne, call the police to arrest this man for causing a disturbance here-
“So you plan to hide that she’s pregnant?!” He seethed with anger “Tell me! Am I the father of her child or not?!”
“Really?!” she grew furious. “What do you think of Lorraine? That she sleeps around so that you wouldn’t be the father?!” She realized what she said and looked away. “You’re not the father! Whether you are or not, it’s none of your business since you two are separated, so can you not? Never show your face to me again!”
His face crumpled. “Fine! You won’t see me again. Just once, Mona. Just once! Let me talk to Lorraine!” he pleaded irritably. “I promise this is the last time. We got divorced, but we never had a proper conversation. We never clarified things. I just want to know more about her pregnancy, Mona. I still have the right to know because I might be the father!”
“Tsk!” she snapped irritably. “Lorraine isn’t here! She’s at the hospital for a check–up. I’ll tell you where, but Callisto, Lorraine has made her decision. She will never come back to you, no matter what happens! Pregnant or not, whether you are the father or not, she’s tired of you and your family! She got seriou, for a moment. I’ll allow you two to talk one last time. But after this, you’ll never see her again.”
He clenched his jaw and nodded. As she told him the location, he rushed to his car and drove away.
Who was Monato decide? If only he had known Lorraine was pregnant, then maybe.
“Fuck!!” He sped off in his car, nearly flying it through the air.
However, just as he was about to reach the hospital, he didn’t notice the stoplight turning red. Before he could react, another accelerating car collided with his. The loud screech of tires filled his ears, and he felt the jolt of impact reverberate through

His eyes were open, but all he could see was the beautiful face of Lorraine, smiling innocently at him. He wanted to see her for a few more moments, but darkness slowly swallowed him whole.
“Hello, Lorraine? Are you still there?” Cady’s voice grabbed Lorraine’s attention from the other end of the phone call.
“I’m still here. I just left the hospital,” Lorraine replied, her hand gently stroking her slightly bulging belly, hidden under at large jacket.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know that you and Callisto had divorced. I didn’t mean to tell him about your pregnancy earlier. I’m really sorry!” Cady’s voice was full of regret
Lorraine swallowed hard and closed her eyes tightly before letting out a quiet sigh. “It’s not your fault. Cady With everything that’s happened these past months, I forgot to tell you that we are no longer together and I kept the baby a secret from him.”
“That explains his reaction earlier, Lorraine. What will you do now? It looks like he might come looking for you because he left in a hurry.” Cady remarked.
“Don’t worry about it. I’ll handle this myself,” Lorraine assured her, her tone resolute.
She then walked around the parking lot to get to her car, where Elector was waiting. It had been daylight when she entered the hospital, but now that she had left, night had fallen. Her stomach was churning, and the baby was demanding food. “Are you sure you’ll be okay, Lorraine?” Cady asked, her concern, lacing her words
“Yes, I will be. After all, Callisto shouldn’t have a say in this now that we’re divorced. He has no business with It’s not like I would listen to him anyway. I’m about to leave the country, and I’ll make sure he never sees our child,” Lorraine

She bid Cady farewell as she reached her car, which Hector immediately drove out of the hospital.
As she quietly gazed out the window of the car, her eyes caught the noisy sounds of ambulances and the loud crowds gathered at the roadside. Two vehicles were overturned and badly damaged. The scene was chaotic, with flashing lights and emergency responders working frantically.
“Ooh, a car accident, Hector whispered. “Poor them. That looks pretty serious. You really have to be extra careful when driving. Goes to show, you’ve got to stay sharp on the road. You never know when disaster will strike.”
“Hmm.” Lorraine briefly stared at the scene before she averted her gaze. The sight of the wreckage sent a–shiver down her spine, but she quickly pushed the thought away, focusing on the path ahead.
