Chapter 40
“Did Lorraine just tolerate my cooking? Callisto muttered to himself in disbelief.
only dish he had painstakingly learned to make was
He knew he wasn’t that e
great at cooking. In fact, he barely knew how to cook anything else. The only dish Lorraine’s favorite, chicken curry.
Back when they were in the mutual relationship phase, he had asked Mona to teach him how to cook Lorraine’s favorite dish just to impress her.
Lorraine always seemed to be impressed and happy with his cooking back then She always gave him a thumbs up and finished everything on her plate. Even after they got married, her attitude towards his cooking never changed. Meanwhile, he never got to taste his own cooking because it was
all for Lorraine.
But now, this revelation was something he struggled to process,
Lorraine never liked his cooking! She even told him to his face that she regretted eating it.
So Lorraine had been pretending all this time, but why? She could have told him so he could improve his cooking! Did she really sacrifice her stomach for the sake of her love for him?
He felt bad, but at the same time, a weight was lifted off his shoulders.
Maybe his cooking was one more thing he needed to get right now that he had the chance!
He didn’t waste any time. He drove to the grocery stores to buy all the ingredients and other household essentials they needed.
He and Gideon had just moved into that house, but they barely had anything, so the trunk of his car was almost full.
arly dusk when he returned, and d Gideon greeted him immediately.
It was nearly
“Callisto! Where the heck have you been without telling me?” Gideon scolded.
“What are you? My wife?” Callisto replied sarcastically as he opened the trunk of his car. “Come on, help carry all this
“Tsk! I’m just worried you might get into an accident Gideon grumbled, helping Callisto bring everything inside. He was delighted when he save what his boss had been up to. “Are you seriously going to cook our dinner?”
“Yes. Not just dinner, but I’ll be the one to cook all our meals from now on,” Callisto said without a hint of jest.
“Wow! Now that’s what I’m talking about!” Gideon exclaimed, helping Callisto arrange the kitchen supplies.
Tm going to cook the best dish I’ve ever cooked!“
But after Callisto finished cooking. Gideon regretted ever letting him into the kitchen. The food tasted like herbal medicine, the worst kind!
It was so bad that Gideon threw up after just three spoonfuls. Why did he trust Callisto to cook! He knew Callisto had learned to cook with Mona before, but why was his best dish the worst thing Gideon had ever tasted?
“So, how is it” Callisto asked hopefully, leaning on the counter with a frown
Callisto didn’t seem to have noticed Gideon’s reaction and was still expecting praise.
“No exaggeration, Callisto, Gideon began. “But this is the worst dish I’ve ever tasted in my entire fucking life! Who cooks this kind of crap for others?”
“Haa!” Callisto sighed. “So my cooking is that bad. Damn!”
“That’s it,” Gideon stood up. Tll just boil some potatoes for dinner-
“Don’t even think about it,” Callisto’s
‘s face turned serious. “Sit down. You’re not eating until I get this chicken curry right!”
“What?! Do you want to kill me, Callisto! Before you get it right, I’ll already be on the brink of death” Gideon yelled in protest
“Didn’t you swear you’d stake your life for me?” Callisto reminded him of their childhood yow.
Gideon scratched his head in frustration. “For fuck’s sake, not like this! I’m not sacrificing my stomach and dying in the most painful way!”
“You!“” Callisto snapped. “It’s either I’ll fire you or you eat my dish!”

“Are you serious right now?” Gideon could’t believe what he was hearing
Callisto’s handsome face was serious. “Your choler! If you can’t do H, you’re free to pack your things and leave!!
“Emphy” Gideon stormed out of the kitchen but returned a second later with a grim face. “Finet No one else pays me as much as you dot fuck ar
“Don’t complain. I didn’t put any deadly ingredients in it,” Callisto grissed
“The result of your cooking is deadly enough!”
“Don’t exaggerate
Tiu not even” Gideon returned to his seat, tears in his eyes.
As he watched Callisto cook, and pile up another set of dirty dishes, he munched on bread to quiet his growling stomach.
“Seriously. Gideon, why are you doing this in the first place?” Callisto asked, but answered his own question before Gideon could respond. “Don’t tell me you want to cook for Lorraine and the twins?”
“That’s exactly what I’m going to do” Callisto said while busy in the kitchen. “Lorraine told me this morning she regretted forcing herself to eat what I made for her before. So now, I want to improve and prove that I’ve changed, including my cooking.”
“There’s no way you’ll
Lorraine back with that cooking! It might even worsen your relationships if that’s all you serve herf”
“That’s why I’ll keep trying until I get it right! You’ll judge my cooking until you can say it’s delicious!”
“Old screve it!” Gideon’s jaw dropped in disbelief.
But after half an hour, when Callisto finished cooking again and Gideon tasted it, the flavor hadn’t improved at all.
Gideon forced himself not to show a disgusted expression to save himself. He tried to like it but couldn’t even manage a bitter smile because of the
“I–It’s. Tilunk at mmproves.
“Don’t even think about lying”
Callisto snatched the food and threw it in the tradh. He moved in the then again: “This is the last time I’ll cook tonight, and I’ll try again tomorrow morning if I don’t gei it right.”
Gideon cried in frustration. There was no way he believed Callisto could improve his cooking without giving Gadeon stomach problems.
But his boss was a cruel person. He not only forced Gideon to eat his cooking one last time that night, but he also made Gideon wash all the used dished
