Chapter 37
Days flew by quickly, and Lorraine kept her promise tos take the kids to the mall to buy toys. They had just come from church, where she usually feh peaceful and healed, but today was different. Instead of peace, she felt irritated and in a foul mood.
The reason! Callisto, with his nerve, had insisted on coming along. He claimed it was his turn to bond with the kids. Instead of having fun, their family coming turned out gloomy.
Lorraine sighed deeply and bent down to talk to her children “Lucian, Lucio, don’t mind him and just enjoy your day. Treat him as if he were invisible. Don’t let him get on your nerves, okay!”
The two forced a smile and nodded determinedly. “Okay, Mommy!”
Very good.”
They entered the toy store, and the two kids excitedly ran off. Callisto, who seemed just as excited, trailed behind Lorraine
“I can’t believe how adorable our kids are,” Callisto said beside her. “They’re so lively. They’re very much like you.” His smile was undeniably sweet.
“You thought.” Lorraine glanced at hirm blankly. “But they’re only trying to enjoy and be active for my sake because you’re here. They’re usually much happier when I take them out, but because you chose to tag along, now they’re not in the mood.”
Callisto scratched his head, smiling. “Is that so? I didn’t notice. I guess I still need to get to know them better to understand their moods. The only one I know who’s not in the mood right now is you. It’s written all over your face. But still, I don’t regret coming with you today”
She sneered. “You’ve got some nerve.”
“Baby, if I don’t do this, the twins will never get used to me. He grew serious. “And they might start seeing another man as their father.
Lorraine rolled her eyes. “I’ll bet my life, once your memory comes back, you won’t recognize them as your children, just like you don’t recognize Angie as your child now“.
Callisto winced at her words, then frowned. “I am not like that. I think even if my memory returns, I’ll still recognize you all as my family.”
Lorraine laughed sarcastically “Oh really? Don’t make me laugh. I already know who you are since you divorced me. I don’t expect anything from
“Well, we both have our faults in our relationship, Lorraine,” Callisto reasoned. “So why don’t we just forgive each other and get back together for the sake of our children!”
Lorraine was unpleasantly taken aback. She wanted to rebattle his first statement, but his following words angered her even more, and she saw red.
She was so furious her teeth were almost grinding together. “If I could, El bring back your memory myself so you’d know it’s not that easy! Hmp! I’d love to smack you, maybe that’ll jog your memory about everything that happened before!”
Callisto stood firm. “Maybe I won’t remember, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know anything. Lorraine! You and Gideon already told me everything I needed to hear, and that’s enough for me to know what to do now. Yes, I still want you back in my life, together with the twins! You all still have a place in my heart, not Amber and Anjic. I want you and the twins back!”
Lorraine clenched her fists tightly. If she continued talking to him, she’d surely resort to violence, and she might snap out of it to find him lying lifeless on the floor
“You’ve got a lot of nerve wanting those things!” With that, she quickly walked away.
She looked for the twins in the aisles of the toy store and soon spotted them eagerly choosing toys, She stayed back, watching them to avoid lening them feel her bad mood because of Callisto. She didn’t want to completely ruin their day.
Callisto already knew what he h had done to her before, so how could he still have the nerve?
When she had calmed down, she finally approached the kids with a smile.
“Mommy!” Lucio immediately called her attention, holding two puzzle boxes. “Which one is better? This one or this one?”
“Pift!” She shook her head. “Why do you have to choose between the two if you could just add both to the cant?”
“O” Lucio’s face lit up. “Thanks, Mominy! You’re the best!”
“Mommy, mommy!” Lucian tugged at the side of her dress. “I saw a big toy car over there that’s just like a real one. Can we buy it? It costs a fortune though.” He pouted and made puppy eyes

Lacian led her to the end of the hallway, where a small toy car sat. Although it was clearly a toy, it looked like a real car because it could be driven.
know how to drive?” she asked
“Do you know
“Nọc but 1 can learn it!”
“Hmm“Lorraine examined if the toy was safe or dangerous.
Callisto suddenly appeared, rager to join in. “If it’s too expensive for you, I’ll pay for it. also teach Lucian how to drive, And of course, since Lucio will be jealous, 111 buy him one too!” he said excitedly.
Lorraine’s lifted face suddenly droppeil, but she chose to ignore him. “What was that, Lucian? Is you hear a bee buzzing around?”
Lucian flinched and immediately got the hunt. “Oh I don’t think there are bees inside the mall, Mommy But flies could get in.”
“Right!” She smirked and bent down to her sous. “Anyway, I don’t worry about how much it costs, but I worry that it could be dangerous”
Lucian’s face remained bright. “I promise I’ll be extra, extra careful, Mommy!”
“Mommy” I want one toooo!” Lucio ran up to them, throwing a tantrum. “If you buy one for Lucian, I want one too!”
“Sweetie.” Lorraine hesitated.
“Ill finish all the vegetables on my plate and take all my medicine if you buy us those mini cars” Lucio tried to strike a deal.
“Ooh, Lorraine sighed, giving in “Alright. If you both want it that badly, what else can I do?”
“Yaaayyy!” The twins jumped with joy, making her laugh.
She glanced at Callisto, half–expecting him to be annoyed because they ignored him earlier. But no, he was smiling just as widely as the twins, as if he had been included in their toy car purchase
Lorraine pursed her lips and continued pretending he didn’t exist. Callisto insisted on paying for everything, but Lorraine refused. This was her treat for the kids, and she always set aside money for these occasions. Besides, if the kids found our Callisto paid, they might play with the toys halfheartedly
eir day didn’t end with just buying toys; they next entered a bookstore, where Lucian and Lucio nearly lost their minds hauling books into their
Their
cart
At this point, Lorraine couldn’t figure out how the twins would balance their time between playing with the new toys and reading all the new books. In the coming weeks, she’d take them shopping for new school supplies as well; it was part of their routine.
“I can pay for all of the books,” Callisto offered again.
“Please!” Lorraine snapped, snacking his card away and glaring at him. “My kids will burn those books if you pay for them. So, if you want to help just carry the bags!”
“O–Oh,” Callisto looked disheartened but wasn’t entirely discouraged. “Alright”
grew tired from walking around the mall, and Lorraine felt dizzy, so their next stop was a fast–food restaurant
The twins
an empty table, leaving
ng Callisto to watch over them while she ordered at the counter.
She seated the twins at an empty
She intentionally ordered food just for the three of them, but guilt got the better of her, and she reluctantly included Callisto’s share. At least he was useful today for carrying the heavy bags.
When she returned to the table, she heard the twins arguing with Callisto, but the fool just kept smiling.
Since the table only had four seats and the twins were sitting together, Lorraine had no choice but to sit next to Callisto.
“We don’t need you to teach us anything about cars,” Lucian said, eyebrows furrowed as he glared at Callisto. “You just had a tragic car accident. Maybe you’re a reckless driver or maybe you were drunk while driving!”
“That’s right!” Lucio agreed. “We wouldn’t want to end up in a coma for years and forget about Mommy when we wake up! You might trick us then and pretend to be a good dad to win us over!”

“That’s a bit Calloro chuckled awkwardly. “Exaggerated”
“Nothing’s exaggerated when you’re in front of us, a living proof that things can go from bad to worse!” Lucian declared.
Lorraine nodded in agreement with her sont
Callisto posted and looked at Lorraine for help. His eyes pleaded to be the one to teach the kids to drive the mini cars. But given his history with car accidents, Lorraine was determined he wasn’t a good influence for her children.
“I have more faith in my children learning how to drive those mini cars on their own than having you teach them. Callisto,” she said bluntly.
The twins frowns turned into smug grins.
“See? Even Mommy thinks so!” Lúcio said, high–fiving Lorian
Callisto deflated again. That’s too bad. Have you considered that maybe someone tampered with my brakes or that someone wanted me dead, which caused the accident?”
“Even if someone wanted you dead, it would be your fault.” Lucian responded with a grin.
Callisto’s jaw dropped. “But why?”
“Because you
you’re a bad person, that’s why!” Lucian stated without hesitation.
“I agree.” Lucio added, nodding.
Lorraine smirked. “Maybe one of his other mistresses wanted him dead.”
“W–What Callisto’s eyes widened as he turned to her.
“What?” Lorraine raised an eyebrow. “Am I wrong?”
“Haa..” Callisto sighed, giving up. “Fine, let’s just say I’m a reckless driver, I was drunk when I drove, and then..”
“Hmp!” Lucian and Lucio sneered, their victory evident on their little faces.
“But why was I drunk?” Callisto mused aloud, playing along with their guesses. He then smiled at Lorraine. “Maybe I was regretting our divorce. Maybe I was on my way to apologize, but the accident happened and ruined our chance to be together again.”
“Ewwww!” The twins‘ victorious expressions turned into disgust
Lorraine’s reaction mirrored theirs, her face twisting in distaste.
Callisto laughed, watching their expressions. It was undeniable they were a family. Only now did Callisto realize that his sons‘ handsome faces were a blend of his and Lorraine’s features, warming his heart and bringing tears to his eyes
He still couldn’t accept the family he had thrown away. He wanted to beat himself up for divorcing Lorraine instead of fixing their relationship
“Even if you survived that accident and came knocking on my door to apologize for your regrets, it wouldn’t change what you did, and it wouldn’t erase the wound in my heart,” Lorraine said quietly, harely audible. “And it wouldn’t change my decision to raise my children alone.”
Callisto looked down, defeated. “I’m sorry…
Lorraine sighed. She let the twins continue to pe

food she ordered arrived.
Callisto was on the verge of feeling completely down, but when he saw that Lorraine had included him in the food order, a glimmer of hope sparked in him.
He glanced at Lorraine, who was busy arranging the twins‘ food before her own.
‘At least… she still cares about me… He smiled broadly. Lorraine was still the same as she had always been, soft–hearted.
Maybe if he worked hard enough to prove himself she would eventually accent him back into their lives.
