Chapter 32
Caroline bus four children. The eldest, Hadrien, died at eighteen. Next is Callisto, her stepson and the illegitimate son of Mr. Avellino. Then comes Penelope, her only daughter, and Penelope’s twin brother, Cassian.
Growing up, only Hadrien and Penelope were violent towards Callisto under their mother’s influence. Callisto got used to their mistreatment, accepting it as a normal part of his daily life. But Cassian was different. He was the opposite of his ublings–affectionate, clingy, and loved to play with Callisto. He was a sweet child, and that’s why Callisto felt so close to him. There was only a two–year age gap between them, and Callisto took on the role of an older brother to Cassian.
Their bond was so strong that even Gideon became a close friend to Cassian. Their relationship remained good as they grew older. However, when Lorraine entered their lives, Gideon started to harbor doubts. To him, it seemed like Cassian had secret feelings for Lorraine, although it was never proven. That is, until something actually happened between them, and Gideon finally confirmed it.
The person Lorraine cheated with was none other than Callisto’s dearest brother, Cassian. This betrayal devastated Callisto and filled him with the desire for revenge.
“How’s my cute godson feeling?” Carly asked Lucio, unable to resist pinching his cheeks because of his adorable face looking up at her. If Lorraine wasn’t around, she would’ve already pinched those chubby checks.
“I feel stronger than ever, Doc Cady! Lucio responded energetically.
“Wow! Does that mean you’re ready to be discharged?”
Lucio’s face lit up. and he let out a squeal. “Really, Doc Cady!! I can go home? We can go home with Mommy?”
“Yes,” she pretended to think before breaking into a wide smile. “As long as you promise to come back on schedule for your follow–up treatments okay?”
Lucio nodded excitedly. Cady laughed at his reaction, knowing he was eager to go home after three weeks in the hospital. Despite his improvement through therapy and regular blood transfusions, Lucio still had a long road ahead before he could be declared fully recovered.
“Thank you so much, Cady” Lorraine said gratefully. “Look at him, you make him so happy. He and Lucian were so bored here in the hospital. They didn’t even touch the toys Callisto gave them. And more importantly, this makes him feel like he’s really getting better.”
“I know, Lorraine, Cady replied, smiling warmly at the twins. “They’re such cute little angels. I wish I had kids like them”
Lorraine sympathized. “It’s not too late for you, Cady
Cady sighed but kept her smile. “It’s okay. Tve accepted it. But anyway, don’t forget Lucio’s medications and his appointment schedule. You need to bring him here even if you’re busy”
“Of course,” Lorraine nodded. There’s no such thing as being too busy for my kids.”
“And that’s why you’re a great mom”
They both laughed and shook their heads.
“By the way, I haven’t seen Callisto since the other day. Don’t tell me he left and abandoned you?”
“I don’t know. He’s not needed anymore. We’ve gathered blood donors from different people, and that’s what’s important. Lorraine said bitterly.
“Su… he really left?” Cardy was taken aback.
Honestly, Lorraine didn’t know where Callisto went after he dropped off the toys for the kids and spent the day disrupting them. After that, he suddenly disappeared. She only found out he had been discharged from the hospital and never came back.
Realizing this, she was thankful that finally, there was some good news after weeks of bad luck
The twins lives were peaceful, and they could talk and bond without someone watching their every move and displaying pitiful emotions.
This also allowed her the freedom to handle her personal business without interruptions. She had no problem with Callisto leaving for good. In fact, she hoped he wouldn’t think of coming back. She was grateful for his help in improving Lucio’s condition, but that was the least he could do considering he’s Lucio’s biological father.
“Mommy! Come on, hurry up with the packing? Lucio was impatiently urging her to pack all their clothes in the room.

Relas, sweetic. We’re not in a rush since our house isn’t going anywhere,” Lorraine said, laughing.
“Sulli I’m excited to go home! I miss my room and everything! I miss the smell of our home!”
“Me 100!” Lucian added.
With that, Lorraine sped up packing their clothes into the bag. “Alright, alright. Ill hurry up.
“And what time is Uncle Wayne coming to pick us up? Lucian asked.
“Maybe at five p.m. They’re still cooking dinner, so when we get back, we can all eat together.”

Lorraine finished parking their things and the leftover food in the fridge. The only things left in the room were the unopened toys Callisto had given the kids. Those toys looked original and quite expensive. She knew because she always bought toys for them.
She stared at them for a moment before asking the children, “Lucian, Lucio, do you want to bring those toys home?”
The two stopped playing and looked at the toys in the corner, which they deliberately ignored despite being attracted to them. They knew those were new editions and very popular among kids. To them, those puzzles would hone their logic and creativity skills.
