Chapter 18
Chapter 18
Four long years had flown by. Now, at Janisburg Airport, a lady utted her stuff in a sleek khaki duster coat, paired with some casual jeans and cool black leather kicks,
Pushing a suitcase, she had a mini–me on top, a little girl who could’ve been mistaken for a doll. Her skin was as smooth as silk, her lips rosy, her eyes huge and sparkling, framed by lashes so long they were almost unreal.
She was all dolled up in a pink princess dress, white socks, and little princess shoes. Kicking her legs as she sat on her throne, she just oozed innocence and charm.
Walking with them was this little guy, all dressed up in his denim overalls and a checkered shirt, with a tiny backpack bouncing on his back. He had a chubby little mouth that was just too adorable, sharp little features, and round eyes that sparkled. His nose was just right, like it was sculpted to perfection.
These two kiddos were like characters straight out of a fairytale, looking as cute and regal as any prince and princess one’d
see in a storybook.
As this trio made their way through the airport, they were a sight to behold, stopping people in their tracks. A bunch of young ladies nearby couldn’t help but gush in a hushed tone, “Those kids are the cutest! I could just squeeze them!”
“Is that their mom? She looks so young and stylish; you’d never guess she’s got two kids. She could totally be their older. sister,” one onlooker whispered.
Totally! And with those cute kids, I bet their dad is a total hottie another added.
“Right! Just seeing them makes me want to have kids someday.”
The bystanders were right in assuming the two kids were fraternal twins. The woman they were talking about was Natalie, who had left Janisburg four years ago. Those little ones she had back then were now three years old, full of energy.
“Mom, I gotta go to the restroom!” Emma, sitting pretty on her suitcase throne, suddenly piped up.
“But Sherry just called; she’s almost here. Can you hold on just a bit longer?” Natalie asked gently, trying to keep her daughter’s patience.
“I can’t wait, Mom,” Emma insisted, her little feet tapping out her impatience, her cheeks all rosy.
“I can take her, Mom. You stay here and wait for Sherry, and I’ll bring her back when she’s done, Zayn offered.
Natalie breathed a little easier, realizing that this was indeed the best plan. She had faith in her son’s ability to handle things.
Back in Yvengard, when she was swamped with work, Zayn and Emma had been able to look after themselves. He’d escort her to preschool, and they’d navigate the familiar streets together, surrounded by friendly faces.
But now, in the hustle and bustle of Janisburg’s airport, with so many strangers around, her protective instincts naturally kicked in

they got to the door, Zayn stopped, knowing he couldn’t go into the girls‘ room.
“Emma, can you go in by yourself? I’ll wait right here for you,” he said.
“I got this, Zayn! I’m in preschool now, I do it all by myself at school. No worries!” Emma boasted, then dashed. restroom with confidence.

After finishing up in the bathroom, Emma stepped out, ready to wash her hands. But when she got to the sink, she realized it was a bit too high for her little arms to reach–not like the ones her preschool that were just the right size.
Seeing a nice–looking young lady nearby, Emma flashed her most charming smile and said, “Excuse me, Miss, could you please help me up so I can wash my hands? Her big eyes sparkled with anticipation as she looked up at the woman, hoping for a little assistance.
The woman was none other than Sabrina, who had come to the airport to pick up her parents.
After completing her studies. Sabrina had taken an internship at Shawn’s company. She had been planning to take a break to visit her parents, but that morning, she got a surprise call. They were already at the airport, on their way to Janisburg to see her and check on Henry. So, her trip home was no longer necessary.
Henry’s health had been on a decline over the years, especially after Shawn’s divorce, Natalie’s departure, and the early passing of Shawn’s parents.
Sabrina’s grandpa and Shawn’s grandpa were siblings, which made their dads cousins. Their families had always been close, living near each other and maintaining a tight–knit bond. With not many kids in either family, their grandfathers treated both Sabrina and Shawn as their own grandchildren.
As Sabrina stood there, she observed the little girl next to her, who was asking for help with such a sweet smile. She wondered who the child belonged to. With that charming face and cute request, it was hard to imagine anyone turning down this little princess.
“Of course!” Sabrina replied, gently lifted Emma up so she could reach the faucet, and even handed her a paper towel to dry her hands.
“Thank you. Miss Pretty,” Emma said, her manners impeccable. Her mom had always drilled into her the value of saying “thank you.”
“No problem at all, sweetheart. Are you here by yourself? Where’s your family?” Sabrina asked, a hint of concern in her voice. She couldn’t help but feel a strange sense of familiarity with the little girl, despite their paths never having crossed
before.
“My brother is waiting outside. Mom’s on the lookout for my godmother. She’s worried she might have trouble spotting us, so she told my brother to bring me to the restroom,” Emma explained; her words clear.
Just then, Zayn called out from the door, “Emma, are you all set in there?” He could hear the conversation and didn’t want to barge in.
Tm all done, Zayn! I’m coming!” Emma called back, then turned to Sabrina. “Miss Pretty, my brother is waiting for me. I have to go now.
Sabrina tagged along behind Emma as they left the restroom. Her eyes caught sight of Emma sprinting towards a small boy, who had to be her brother. Since Shawn hadn’t come out yet, Sabrina chose to stay put by the door.
“Zayn, this nice lady helped me wash my hands. Emma bubbled over.

“Yep! And she said no problems. Emma chirped back.
“Nice one. Emma. You’re such a well–mannered kid. Let’s get going: Mom and Sherry might be wondering where we are.” Zayn suggested, taking his sister’s hand gently and guiding her back to their mom.
As Sabrina overheard their exchange, she turned to look at Zayn, and that feeling of familiarity struck her again, even stronger this time. It was as if she had seen him somewhere before, but she just couldn’t recall where.
As Shawn finally came out of the restroom, he spotted Sabrina gazing intently into the distance. “What’s got your attention?” he inquired.
“Hey, you’re back.” Sabrina greeted him, her eyes lighting up. I just ran into these two kids. They’re really adorable–could definitely make it as child stars. But the weird part is, I feel like Le met them before.”
Shawn followed her gaze but only caught a glimpse of the kids‘ retreating figures. “Alright, let’s head out. Your mom and dad are here,” he said.
“Okay Sabrina replied. Ever since his split from Natalie, Shawnbad become more distant–cold, almost mechanical, with work consuming him as if he could toil away his entire life without ever taking pleasure in it.
As they strolled. Sabrina couldn’t resist one last glance over her shoulder at Emina and Zayn. I’d really like to meet their mom. I’m dying to know how she raised such lovely children.”
