Chapter 9
I blinked innocently. “I didn‘ t do anything.
“You liar! Is this how you want to get back at me? To ruin me?!”
“Mr. Chadbourne, what did this woman. say to you? She’s a lunatic! She’s been holding a grudge against me for years. Back then, she and my dad had a nasty divorce, and now she’s using this chance to get back at me. Don’t believe a word she says! Look, Hannergy Technologies is absolutely worth partnering with. We‘ re serious. about working with you on the solar energy project. Your technology is world–class- way ahead of everyone else. Sure, we re not at your level yet, but we‘ re eager to follow your lead. Didn’t we already agree over the phone?”
Duncan retorted, “I don‘ t see any reason to partner with your company. Twenty years in the business, and you’ve only just

gone public. Besides, your so–called investment strategy? It’s just stealing other people’s clients.”
“Did she tell you that? Well, clients naturally go with whoever gives them the better deal. I offered a higher and better price, so of course, they chose to work with. me. I’m not saying I’m on your level- far from it. You‘ re a genius, my idol, honestly! When I heard I had a chance to work with you, I was so excited I could barely sleep. Please, Mr. Chadbourne, don‘ t cancel our deal just because of one- sided biased stories.”
Watching Willow grovel and fawn over him, Duncan glanced at me, raising an eyebrow with a sly smirk.
I could tell he wasn’t done messing with Willow. My boy wanted to drag this out, purely for my entertainment.
“How about this,” Duncan finally said, “if your stock price stays above 70 per share by the end of today, I’ll agree to

partner with your company.”
Willow exhaled a long breath of relief, then immediately pulled out his phone. A flash of delight crossed his face as he smiled. “That’s no problem at all! Yesterday, we were at 85 per share. While there’s been some fluctuation today, it couldn‘ t possibly drop to 70.”
But as he stared at his phone, his eyes widened and his pupils dilated dramatically as he kept refreshing the page
to recheck the stock prices.
Hannergy Technologies‘ s stock was tanking–plummeting like a waterfall. It hit the limit down, and the drop was devastating.
“What the hell‘ s going on? How could this happen? Why did the stock drop like this? Mr. Chadbourne, please let me explain. I’ll investigate this right away. It wasn’t like this yesterday! Something must’ve gone wrong!”

“No need to look into it,” Duncan replied coldly. “I already know what happened. I did it.”
Willow’s smile froze on his face. “Mr. Chadbourne… Why?”
“Because you disrespected my mother. Consider this your punishment.”
“When did I ever disrespect your mother? Please, give me another chance! I can explain to her–this has to be a misunderstanding!”
I couldn’t help but laugh coldly. “A misunderstanding? I don‘ t think so. Just earlier, you called me a lunatic.”
Harlan and the others stood there,
stunned. They looked like they’d been struck by lightning–completely unable to process what had just happened.
None of them would have imagined that the unassuming woman standing before them–me–was the mother of the world’s
richest man.

At that moment, Matilda walked over to Duncan, whispered something to him, and then came to stand beside me.
Smiling, I turned to the crowd. “Everyone, let me introduce my three dear children. This is my eldest, Duncan, the richest man in the world. My second child, Matilda, the
Research Director at the Frontier Technological Research Institute and a pioneer in cutting–edge technology. And my youngest, Minerva, is the principal of Stratford International Academy, the prestigious private school.”
As I spoke, murmurs filled the hall as the guests lowered their heads and whispered among themselves.
“Wow, Leanna really hit the jackpot. All three of her kids are exceptional- absolutely incredible!”
“Oh, shit. Do you think she overheard what I said the last time? My
granddaughter wants to get into Stratford International Academy. Dang, I’ll have to

swallow my pride and beg her later.”
“Apparently, back then, Leanne couldn’t have kids, so she set her sights on Harlan
‘cause he got money and kids. She kicked her step–sister out just to take her place.”
