Chapter 7
William had only been maintaining Walter Group on the solid foundation laid by my mother–in–law. In the past few years, the company hadn’t made any significant progress.
My mother–in–law had mentioned more than once that she could see I was ten
times more capable than William. If I ever wanted, I could take over managing Walter Group at any time.
But each time I declined, believing in my mother–in–law’s sincerity, I didn’t want to get entangled in the Walter Family‘ s internal strife.
After all, I had my own business to run and the Ross Family’s foundation was much stronger than the Walter Family‘ s. I wasn’t going to abandon a watermelon
for a sesame seed, especially when it would bring nothing but trouble.

One of the reasons my mother–in–law looked down on William was that he wasn‘ t her biological son. William was the child of my father–in–law, Erick Walter and his first love. When William was born, his mother died during childbirth.
It was only after Albert knelt in front of my mother–in–law and begged her for an entire night that she agreed to take William in and raise him.
My mother–in–law had never forgiven Albert for this and she never had another child with him. However, she honored her promise and raised William.
In fact, William never knew this. My mother–in–law truly regarded me as her own, sharing such a deep secret with me.
She had even told me that if I had been her
biological daughter, she would never have allowed me to marry such a useless man as
William.
After the exchange with Rossa, which left

them both humiliated, William and Rossa wore expressions of embarrassment.
Soon, the birthday banquet officially began. My mother–in–law sat at the head of the table, with William and me seated on either side of her.
Rossa, however, sat next to William. After everyone exchanged birthday greetings, my mother–in–law cut the cake and the guests began to eat.
“Ugh… ugh…”
Rossa suddenly started gagging. My mother–in–law’s sharp eyes immediately turned toward her.
William’s face turned pale and he quickly stood up to help Rossa, speaking anxiously to my mother–in–law.
“Mom, Rossa isn’t feeling well these days. I’ll take her to the bathroom.”
As William tried to pull Rossa away, she suddenly stood still, her expression cold

and resolute.
I sensed something was wrong with Rossa and in the next moment, she suddenly spoke to my mother–in–law.
“Madam! I’ll be honest with you. I’m not just William‘ s secretary, I’m also his mistress! I’m pregnant with his child! Today, during your birthday banquet, with everyone present, I just want to ask you one thing: will you allow William to marry me and give me a proper title?!”
I couldn’t believe it–Rossa was actually daring to force the issue like this? Her words left the entire room stunned.
I had expected my mother–in–law to be shocked, but instead, she calmly swallowed the shrimp she was chewing, then looked Rossa up and down with clear disdain before sneering.
“Tell me, what gives you the right to ask me for a title?”
“Isn’t it because I’m pregnant with

William‘ s child, your grandchild? Also, isn’t it because Dana, your daughter–in- law, has been married to William for five years without getting pregnant?”
My mother–in–law‘ s sarcasm practically oozed from her words.
“Ha! So what if you have a womb? You shameless thing, you‘ ve become William’s mistress and now want to call yourself the young mistress of the Walter Family?”
“Really, what a joke! Women like you are a dime a dozen worldwide. I could throw
some money around and get a thousand more like you. Why should it be you?”
“You dare compare yourself to Dana? Look at her family background, her status, her abilities.
You don’t even deserve to carry her shoes!”
“Since you‘ re asking in front of all these people, I’ll be blunt with you. There’s no

way you’ll marry into the Walter Family. If you think you‘ re going to have William’s child, I won‘ t acknowledge this grandchild!”
