“Gavin, I’m hurting so much…” Savanna whimpered, one hand clutching her forehead, blood trickling through her fingers, the other tugging on his sleeve.
But Gavin didn’t move. His eyes were fixed on me–on my battered, bloodied form.
I knew what he saw: a broken, tear–streaked mess of a woman.
“Aria, what… what happened to you? And your leg?” he finally stammered, inching toward

I cut him off with a bitter smile. “What happened doesn’t matter. Right now, your little songbird isn’t happy. That seems to carry quite the price, doesn’t it?”
“It’s not like that,” Gavin mumbled, his voice cracking. “Aria, I… please, let me explain…”
“Explain?” I tilted my head mockingly. “Explain why you disappeared on my mother’s death anniversary but showed up for Savanna’s slightest inconvenience?”

Gavin’s eyes filled with something close to panic. “I’m sorry, Aria… I didn’t know. I’m
sorry!”
“Oh,” I drawled, dragging the word out. “You didn’t know? Because while I was trapped under a steering wheel, you were too busy holding another woman. Because even in the ambulance, you prioritized her over me.”
“That’s not true, Aria! I would never-” Gavin’s lips quivered as he spoke,

“No,” I interrupted sharply. “You wouldn’t. Not the man you used to be. But that Gavin Carter is gone. He died long ago, on some ordinary day when I wasn’t looking.”
The Gavin of old had made me the envy of everyone around me.
I had genuinely believed that ours was a fairytale brought to life.

But this nightmare jolted me awake. With trembling hands, I pushed away his attempts to wipe the blood from my face.
“We’re getting a divorce.”
