Chapter 8 – Tricked
ROY
“How could you?!” I screamed at Raina.
She jumped and looked startled to see me then suddenly she feigned pain and held the nurse limping.
“Roy, you scared me. Now my leg hurts again,” she cried.
As I stared at her I could see the looks in her eyes. The way her pupils dilated like she didn’t mean what she was saying.
Now that I was staring at her properly I could see that she was always faking everything
that’s happened to her. I wonder how I’ve

missed it all this while.
“Just stop faking, Raina, I know
everything,” I snapped.
Freya walked inside and stood beside
me, a smug smile on her face as she stared at Raina. This was what she had been trying to tell me all these while but I’ve been too pigheaded to listen.
“What do you mean, Roy?” she asked, still pretending.
“Cut the crap, Raina!” I hissed at her.
She stared at the nurse and sighed, “Get out.”
“How can you snap at her like that?” I asked, shocked.

Raina scowled, the timid and weak look she’s always had on her face slipped off like a mask to reveal a deadly face filled with viciousness
and anger.
“Who are you?” I found myself asking.
“I’m the woman who’s been in love with
you all these years, Roy, why have you been so blind to see it?” she asked.
Freya didn’t say a word, she just gave me a knowing smile and I remembered all the times she’d been telling me that Raina loved me and I just dismissed her. Now I felt terrible and wondered why I didn’t listen to her.
“How could you say that with Freya here? Don’t you feel sorry for how you lied and

ruined our wedding?” I asked her.
“Oh please,” Raina scoffed, “I couldn’t give a fuck about Freya. She’s the reason why we aren’t together.”
I was too stunned to speak and at that moment my grandmother entered the ward. She took one look at the scene and laughed.
“Seems my plan worked,” she said.
Raina’s eyes turned cold as she glared at her,
“You did this?”
I was appalled at what was happening before me. The sweet and calm Raina was gone, replaced by a vicious woman whom I felt like I had never met before.
“Don’t speak to her that way, Raina, she’s

not the cause of your problem,” Freya finally
spoke.
Sarah chuckled, “Don’t mind her, love. She’s just sad that her secret is out of the bag.”
“I can’t believe this is happening, Raina. So all these while you’ve been lying to me and your leg is fine. You faked the accident just to disrupt my wedding?” I asked with a sigh. Raina scoffed, “Don’t put all the blame on me, Roy. If you’ve been in love with Freya then you wouldn’t have abandoned her at the altar for me.”
Her words seemed to upset Freya as she turned away and left the room without saying a word. I tried to go after her but I decided to

finish up here.
I walked up to Raina and grabbed her arm,
“I trusted you, Raina. You were my friend!”
“I didn’t want a friend, I needed more!” she snapped and tried to kiss me.
I pulled away from her and glared at her, “Stay away from me, Raina. I guess it’s already clear you can take care of yourself.”
Raina scoffed, “You‘ re gonna defy my grandfather?”
I shrugged, “You‘ ve hurt Freya, Raina. I don’t know how many times I need to tell you that it’s never going to work out between us because I am in love with Freya! Get that and stay away.”

Her eyes darted to my grandmother who was smirking at her.
Raina laughed, “You are going to regret this, Sarah.”
My grandmother walked up to her and smiled, “I exposed you for what you are, Raina. Stop deceiving my grandson and stay away if you’re not wanted.”
Raina threw her head back and laughed like a maniac, “I promise you, Sarah, Roy will be mine and I’m gonna have the last laugh. Mark my words, Sarah, because you are going to pay for this!”
