Chloe did indeed go to make a scene with my brother, but after a few times, my brother started making excuses not to see her.
My brother hadn’t been idle these past few days. He finally grew a brain and went to investigate Chloe’s character and background.
The confused man trapped in love finally woke up. My brother returned home with a thick stack of documents, his face gloomy.
At that time, my parents and I were all in the living room.
“It’s all fake,” he said tiredly, taking off his glasses. “Chloe actually lied to me. She said she was an orphan which is why I took extra care of

her. I thought of myself when I was young. Later, she kept getting close to me, and I grew closer to her because of our similar backgrounds. I didn’t expect it was all fake – her gentleness, her family background, even her love for me.”
My brother looked heartbroken. “Dad, Mom, this person approached me with ulterior motives from the very beginning. Please don’t believe anything she says.”
“You’re talking nonsense! What do you mean by ‘this kind of person‘? This kind of person is someone you actively pursued and promised everything to. Now you’re denying it all, aren’t you?” Chloe rushed down from upstairs. My brother hadn’t expected her to appear here.
Chloe had arrived about an hour earlier. When she couldn’t get results from confronting my brother, she came to our house.
She came in crying and begging me to agree to their marriage, then knelt down to plead with my parents, saying she was already pregnant with the Sanders family’s child, asking our family to accept her.
She was in tears, looking quite pitiful.
My mom just felt a headache and comforted her with a few words before letting her go back to rest.
Before going upstairs, she turned back and instructed Mrs. Wilson, “Remember to make something nutritious.”
It seemed the child in her belly gave her confidence, and now she was even more self–assured in ordering our family’s housekeeper around.
But before she could eat dinner, and before the house could settle down, my brother came back.
Hearing him speak like this, Chloe was furious. She no longer pretended to be pitiful and simply tore off her mask with my brother.
“Those words were exactly what you said! You said you’ve worked tirelessly for the family for so many years, and you’ll surely take over the Sanders family’s business in the future. You also said Mollie Sanders is just a girl, not worth worrying about. In the future, everything in the company will be yours. As long as I give you a child, we can just enjoy life. You said all of this!”
Chloe screamed at the top of her lungs, a complete reversal from her usual fragile appearance, rushing over to confront my brother.
My brother anxiously tried to cover her mouth. “What nonsense are you spouting, you bitch?”
Chloe broke free and knelt down in front of my parents again. “I’m now pregnant with the Sanders family’s child. Either you make William marry me, or you give me a sum of money! Your family needs to give me an answer, or I’ll die right here!”
Hearing this, my brother tightly closed his eyes.
I put down the fruit I was eating and slowly opened my mouth: “You’re right, he got you pregnant, so he should indeed take responsibility.”
Chloe looked up at me, her eyes shining, thinking I was speaking up for her.
“But what does this child have to do with our family?” I picked up a toothpick and stabbed a piece of watermelon.
Chloe’s eyes widened, “What do you mean? This is the Sanders family’s child. Are you going to deny it? I can do a paternity test. This is definitely the Sanders family’s child.”
“Stop it, I told you to stop,” William tried to prevent Chloe from continuing.
