Chapter 83
The wedding treeption buzzed with energy as laughter, chatter, and the clinking of glasses filled the air. The grand hall was beautifully adorned with twinkling lights and delicate floral arrangements. It was supposed to be a night of joy and celebration, but for Penelope, it felt like a whirlwind of frustration and contindon
She watched so the women screamed when the bride tossed her wedding bouquet. They scrambled, shouted, and ran toward each other, eager to auch the flower. “Kyaaby I got it!” But it was Hanna who emerged victorinos, raising the bosquet high as if she had just won the lottery. Her joy raduated from her, her slanted eyes nearly disappearing behind her ear–to–ear grin, sparkling with bright white teeth.
“Waah! Hanna caught it. You’re so lucky, girl” Her three friends jumped for joy and nothed to mrround her.
“You’re best to get married!” “The guy who marries you is the hai kiegt I’m an excited-”
As than momen. Hanna’s gare flicked to Penelope who stood at a distance, rolling her eyes. What a hratt Penelope thought, her annoyance flaring as she recalled how Hanna had pushed het, ensuring the banquet landed in her handl. She saw na pause momentarily, then stick her tongue

Ever since they arrived at the reception after the wedding ceremony, Penelope’s focus had been solely on Lan and Hanna. Tan was her ex–boyfriend. and despite being the one who broke up with him when she got bored, she still liked him.
Penelope leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms defiantly. “Girl, let her marry my trash, then”
“Oh, look at lan trying to approach Hanna, Trish pointed into the distance
Penelope’s heart sank as she immediately scanned the area for that jerk. She spotted him standing next to the cameraman while the women took pictures. his eyes fixated directly on her ex–love

“Pili!” Faye patted her on the back as they sat. “Man, you can’t do anything right now. So if I were you. I’d hurry up and handle your mother’s

“Tukk“” Penelope shrugged off Faye’s hand.
With newfound determination, she stood up, glancing at the two of them. “You know what? You’re right, Faye; I’ll fix this mess! Right now!
“Hey, hey! I didn’t say to do it right now!”
“Girl, where are you going! Don’t tell-
Penelope didn’t let them finish. She turned her back on them and strode away with determined strides, wiping the expression off her face. As she passed a glass window, she adjusted her bowtie and straightened her black coat, making sure to keep her gaze fierce and serious, as if preparing for a fight.
That’s because she was really going to confront her enemy!
Penelope suspected he would be behind the garden, alone, with no friends, nothing at all. She found him half–sitting on a bench, taking a drag from a black cigarene and looking up at the sky as he exhaled smoke
“I might melt from your staring, Penelope,” he said, the corner of his lips lifting without turning his attention to her

Her jaw nearly dropped. What was going on? Was she going draf!!
He exhaled sharply and placed one hand on her shoulder, leaning closer to whisper in her ear. “Penelope, we have to get married, whether you like
Her eyes widened in shock as she stared at him, “Do you like me?l“:
“Not a chance.” he replied sharply before bumping her arm and walking away
Left standing there. Penelope grappled with the sudden upheaval of her emotions. The garden had become a surreal backdrop to this unexpected confrontation. She couldn’t believe Liam had the audacity to dismiss her feelings so casually while still managing to make her heart race. Clenching her fists, she felt both infuriated and bewildered by the mess that her life had become.
As she turned to head back toward the reception, her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. Why was he acting this way? Did he think he could just toy with her emotions? The worst part was that she knew she would have to confront him again. This wasn’t over, not by a long shot
The reception hall was even louder than before. Couples danced under the soft lights, and the air was thick with the scent of flowers and the sweet aroma of the buffet spread. A pang of jealousy struck her as she watched Hanna and lan share a laugh. Penelope wanted to scream and grab them both by their shoulders, demanding to know why they felt so free and unbothered when she was stuck in this chaotic whirlwind of emotions.
“Penelope Brenda’s voice broke through her haze. “There you are! We were
worried!”
She forced a smile, though it felt more like a grimace. “Yeah, just needed some air,”
Trish raised an eyebrow, her expression skeptical. “You okay? You look like you just saw a ghost.”
“More like a nightmare,” she mumbled under her breath, her gaze drifting back to Liam, who was now mingling with other guests, his laughter ringing out like a challenge.
“Let’s go dance” Faye suggested, pulling her toward the dance floor. Penelope hesitated, wanting to retreat into the background, but the energy of her friends was infectious
As they twirled around to the music, she tried to shake off her earlier encounter with Liam, but it clung to her like a shadow. The lights flickered overhead, and she lost herself momentarily in the rhythm of the music. Maybe she could distract herself long enough to forget about him or at least convince herself that he didn’t matter.
But as she danced, she kept catching glimpses of him. The way he leaned against the bar, casually talking to a group of friends, made her feel a mix of irritation and longing. It was maddening. Why did he have to be so infuriatingly attractive? Why did her heart still flutter every time she caught sight of him!
She needed to confront him again, and the idea made her anxious. She’d have to figure out how to break the news about their mothers ridiculous agreement without losing her mind in the process.
After what felt like an eternity, the music slowed, and Penelope stepped away from the dance floor, looking for a moment to breathe. She spotted a quieter comer of the hall and made her way toward it, hoping to gather her thoughts.
Just then, she bumped into someone. “Whoa, watch where you’re
