Chapter 69
On the other hand, Lorraine still couldn’t shake off the unease when Cassian appeared once again before her. His strange eyes and the way he looked at her brought hack memories from the past, back when the and Calijuro were post newly engaged.
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, Lorraine baliy
Lorraine froze when a familiar voice shouted nearby where she and Amber were standing. Turning around, she saw Cady, dressed in a sparkling black dress, arms wide open. Shocked, she quickly stood up.
“Kyah” You made it” Lorraine rushed to her and immediately hugged her “Cady! I’ve missed you so much?”
“Girl! I was shocked when I got your wedding invitation Tended up flying back to the Philippines ahead of schedule just to attend your engagement party with Calliset
Pulling away from the hug. Lorraine laughed. “I know! Tim so glad you could come! How many years has it heen! You’re always so busy when it comes to me, I’ve been so said!”
“Aw! It’s only been a year, Lorraine! What are you talking about Cady unorted, “You know I needed a change of scenery, that’s why I didn’t come home, but your wedding is an exception! After all these years, you’re finally getting married! Eyaah!”
Cady’s excitement was infections, and they both jumped around like giddy children. The tight feeling in Lorraine’s chest loosened at her arrival She could finally breathe easier, feeling overwhelmed with emotion
In just four months, she would be marrying Callisto. This was the moment she had waited for her entire life–marrying the man of her dreams.
“Girls! Don’t you think I should be part of this?” Amber teased from her seat at the round table. “Am I just an accessory to this friendship?”
“Oh! Let’s sit down!” Lorraine pulled Cady into the chair next to her.
Cady and Amber weren’t exactly close. They only met through Lorraine a few years ago, but for some reason, they never seemed to click, even though they hung out together for Lorraine’s sake.
“How about Jessa Where is she?” Cady asked, playfully referring to another one of their friends. “Is she still our friend?“
“Oh, she was actually the first one to arrive. She’s been drinking with some of the guests because you guys were so late, Lorraine quickly responded.
The engagement party had started at six in the evening, but Cady and her friends didn’t show up until nine. Most of the guests had already left by then, and half of the remaining ones were from Callisto’s side. He had been busy entertaining them, while Lorraine, having greeted everyone, focused on spending time with her friends,
“Lorraine looked so down earlier. I’m glad you came, Cady! I didn’t even know how to cheer her up,” Amber chimed in while sipping her wine.
Lorraine’s face flushed, and she shook her head at Amber. “I’m fine now, don’t worry!”
“What! Why? What happened? Cady turned to Lorraine, confused. “Were you feeling sad
Now that the topic was out in the open, Lorraine knew she had to explain, even though she didn’t want them to worry. These past few days. something had been weighing heavily on her chest, making it hard to breathe unless she talked about it.
“No, I’m not sad, Cady, just anxious. Maybe it’s normal to feel this way! I mean, it’s my first time getting married,” she replied hesitantly.
“What? Come on! A wedding is just an event. What’s important is the person you’re marrying. Don’t overthink it! Four months will fly by, and before you know it, you’ll be in your wedding dress!” Cady reassured her.
“Exactly! I already told her that, but there’s something else on her mind,” Amber added, shaking her head, I know there’s something more, Lorraine. Spill the tea! Amber’s here to listen
Lorraine stayed quiet for a moment, sighing deeply before norkling with a forced smile.
“You know, I had a dream last month, she started. “In my dream, there was another man standing at the altar with me. I couldn’t see his face, but I knew it wasn’t Callisto. Since then, I’ve been having the same dream almost every night, and it’s really unsettling.”
The two women fell silent, exchanging glances before turning their attention back to her.
“Wait, I know it sounds ridiculous, but I can’t help but feel threatened by that dream!” Lorraine quickly defended.
“No! That’s actually interesting Cady mused. “What if your dream is a sign, and something happens that it’s predicting!”
Cherself.

Lorraine’s heart tightened. “What do you mean?”
She couldn’t marry anyone else but Callisto! He was the love of her life. It was too late to love anyone else now
She tried to reassure herself, but her heartbeat quickened. An overwhelming sense of helplessness washed over her. These emotional ups and downs weren’t doing her any good.
“Okay! That’s just ridiculous! A dream is just a dream, Amber countered, taking another sip of wine. “Don’t worry too much, Lorraine. Who would dare challenge your relationship with Callistol Ten years? No man could just replace that. Like Cady said, your wedding is in four months. There’s no way it won’t happen.”
Lorraine stayed quiet, taking a sip from a glass of wine on the table. Her face twisted at the taste, wondering how Amber could enjoy drinking it so much.
“Pwe!” She grimaced but felt the rapid beating of her heart slow down. “You’re right, Amber. Thank you. I don’t know what’s been wrong with me these past few days”
“But do you guys remember?” Cady scratched her head. That time when Lorraine dreamt that my ex–boyfriend was cheating on me! And then it turned out to be true! Sometimes dreams mean something, right!”
Lorraine saw Amber facepalm. “You know what? Instead of calming Lorraine down, you’re making things worse! If she ends up crying, it’s on you! Callisto will not be happy!”
Cady gasped, immediately rubbing Lorraine’s back as if comforting her, even though she wasn’t crying yet. Despite their playful bickering. Lorraine felt a little lighter from their concem.
She still couldn’t fully understand the root of her anxiety. It wasn’t just because of the dream–there was something deeper. Maybe it was because she knew, deep down, that after ten years with Callisto, their relationship was only built on an arranged marriage.
For ten years. Lorraine had chased after him, and only three years ago did he start returning her love. But their dynamic hadn’t really changed. She loved Callisto with all her heart, and he was the only man she would ever love. Yet, she wasn’t sure if he felt the same way.
She had always given more than she received. Now that they were getting married, she should feel ecstatic. But instead, she felt more anxious, fearing that this marriage might never happen. The closer she got to what she wanted, the more it seemed to slip away.
