Chapter 7
The news of my divorce from Hanley spread quickly through our relatives and friends. They wasted no time in pouring insults on me in the family chat, showing no regard for the fact that I hadn’t even left the group yet.
I read through the cruel messages, raising an eyebrow at the audacity. I saved every word as evidence, then turned around and handed it all over to the police.
Hanley, fuming with anger, snapped at me, “What more do you want now that we’re divorced? You’re nothing but a vindictive witch!“/
I didn’t respond. I simply grabbed my bag and walked out, heading to our old home.
When I arrived, the house was in chaos. It seemed that, thanks to my report about their defamation, some of his close relatives had already enjoyed a little visit to the police station.
I knocked on the door, and Hanley was the one who answered.
It had only been a few days since we last saw each other, but he looked like he’d aged ten years. His disheveled appearance was a far cry from the man I once knew.
“What are you doing here? Haven’t you caused us enough trouble already?”
Igave him a cold look. “You’ve forgotten–I still have a little gift left for you.”
I sat down on the sofa, crossing my legs with a sense of disdain.
Kennard and Nicole were both there, their faces twisted with hatred as they glared at me. It was clear they wished they could tear me apart.

I didn’t waste time with any pleasantries. I pulled the paternity test report from my bag and tossed it onto the table. “Before you all start blaming me for everything, take a look at this. It’s the paternity test I did last time using your toothbrushes. I’ve been carrying the blame for this long enough, and I’m done.”
Kennard grabbed the report first. The moment he read it, his face turned bright red with rage.
“What? Where did you get this report? Hanley can’t possibly not be my son!” he roared.
“Dad, what are you talking about?”
At this, Hanley was stunned. He grabbed the report, his hands trèmbling as he scanned the contents.
Nicole, on the other hand, had collapsed on the floor, pale and trembling, unable to look us in the eye.

I patted her on the shoulder. “Nicole, no, I should be calling you Mrs. Pearce now. I’ve been carrying this burden for you all this time. What are you going to do to repay me?
Nicole didn’t answer. She just sat there, head bowed in silence.
Kennard yanked her to her feet. “Explain this to me! What is going on here?”
I added fuel to the fire. “Mr. Pearce, take a good look. This report matches the one you got before, doesn’t it? Don’t start accusing me of faking it.”
Kennard, ever the sharp one, saw right away that both reports came from the same hospital. There was no way they could be fake.
He grabbed Nicole’s arm tightly, his eyes bloodshot with fury. “You’d better explain this to me. Who is Hanley’s real father? You’ve been lying to me all these years!”

Nicole’s lips trembled as she mumbled something, her words too unclear to make sense of, but her face was full of guilt.
She still wouldn’t admit it. “This report is fake! It’s fake!” she insisted.
I smirked. “Oh, Mrs. Pearce, when you put all the blame on me, did you ever think it would end like this? If the report’s fake, what about the blood type? You both have O–type blood, so how could Hanley have A–type blood?”
Hanley, still in shock, finally caught on. “Dad, what does this report mean? How could I not be your son?”
Kennard slapped him across the face without hesitation. “Don’t call me Dad. Go ask your mother who your real father is!”
He turned to Nicole, who was still staring blankly. “Mom, say something!”
Nicole remained silent, her tears falling as she bowed her head. Her silence was as good as an admission of guilt.
I slowly stood up, meeting Kennard’s gaze. “I told you from the start, Christopher is Hanley’s son. But you all refused to believe me. Now, it makes sense, doesn’t it? Hanley isn’t your son, so naturally, Christopher isn’t your grandson. That’s why there isn’t any blood relation between you two.”
Kennard gritted his teeth as he stared at Nicole, his grip on her arm tightening.
continued, “Are you shocked? I warned you before, but you didn’t listen. You even stopped me from having Christopher and Hanley retake the paternity test. Now, it’s all clear, isn’t it?”
