I had seen Kennard and Nicole’s health check–up reports before. They both had O–type
blood.
According to the chart on the wall, their child could only have O–type blood. It was impossible for their offspring to have any other blood type.
But I clearly remembered that six months ago, Hanley had undergone a company–wide health check–up, and I was the one who filled out his form. It showed that he had A–type blood. How could this be…
I froze for a moment, and then it hit me.
No wonder Nicole had been acting so strangely, constantly urging them to kick me out, even repeatedly stopping Hanley from getting a second paternity test for Christopher. It turned out she was the one hiding something.
A laugh escaped me.
What was this, a movie plot? This ridiculousness was actually unfolding right before my eyes. If Kennard and Hanley found out the truth, the Pearces would be in for quite a shock.
I couldn’t help but think back to everything they had done to me and Christopher. My fists clenched in silent anger.
I knew it. Life wasn’t unfair. Christopher and I wouldn’t have to suffer all of this for nothing.
With that thought firmly in place, I found a law firm and had my personal assets notarized. I also drafted a divorce agreement, planning to return home one last time.
Besides getting Hanley’s signature, there was something even more important I needed to do.
When I walked through the door, all three of them were at home. The living room was thick with the smell of alcohol, and the place was a complete mess.
As soon as Nicole saw me, she couldn’t sit still. She stood up in a hurry. “What are you back for? You have no business coming back here!”
I smirked, my tone carrying a hidden meaning. “Nicole, I haven’t even said why I’m here yet. Why are you so worked up? Are you afraid I’m going to say something?”
Nicole lifted her chin, trying to defend herself. “What’s wrong with me getting upset? With a shameless daughter- in–law like you, should I just sit here and watch you ruin our family’s reputation?”
I wasn’t about to let her get away with it. “Ruin your reputation? I don’t think I’m the one ruining it. You shouldn’t speak too soon.”
Nicole’s face shifted from pale to red, her eyes filled with hatred as she glared at me.
Hanley looked up at me, his voice impatient. “What do you want?”
I threw the divorce papers on the table. “Sign it. I’m done wasting time with you all. Christopher stays with me, and the rest of the property is clearly outlined.”
He glanced at it casually, as though he found it amusing. “Dawn, are you out of your mind? You cheated during our marriage and had another man’s child, and now you want to claim half of our assets? Ar
you dreaming?”
Kennard, hearing this, exploded in anger. “Have you no shame? After what you did, you still want to take our house and money? How could you be so shameless? You and your son should stay away–the further, the better!”
中
I rolled my eyes. “Why should I stay away? Half of the money for this house came from my family. The bank receipts are still around. Why shouldn’t I take it back? And just because you say I cheated doesn’t make it true. The

court will decide, not your accusations.”
Hanley stared at me, furious. “You still want to take this to court? Don’t you feel embarrassed enough for what you’ve done?”
I let out a soft laugh. “If you want me to stay silent, then just sign the papers. If you don’t, I’ll let the court handle it. Let’s see if they’ll side with you.”
Then, I turned to Nicole with a smile. “Nicole, what do you think? Shouldn’t the court do another paternity test to see whether I really cheated? They should handle it fairly, right?”
