Chapter 61
Amber paced the living room, her mind swirling with thoughts alato’s sudden return and the heartbreaking revelation Cassian had shared with her. Her fiance, who had been in a coma for years, had woken up with amneku. Asif that wasn’t painful enough, she had discovered that Calliste had a child with his ex–wife, Lorraine. It was enough to break anyone, but Amber wasn’t just anyone
The ringing of her phone stopped her out of her reverie. She glanced at the screen–it was Kim. Of course, she thought. They must be worried after my brakonu last night
Amber picked up the call, and Kim’s frantic voice flooded her ear. “Amber! What happened! I’ve been trying to reach you all night! Are you okay? We scere in worned”
Amber forced herself to sound fragile, letting out a sigh. “Tim sorry for worrying you, Kim. It’s been overwhelming
“Girl, you sounded like you were crying last night. Serene and I were w
you. I’m coming over.”
were worried sick! We need to are y
Amber almost smiled at how easily her friends took the bait. Sure, come over, I need to talk. It’s abour Callisto
“Of course. We’ll be there soon, Kim reassured her before hanging up..
Amber quickly freshened up and instructed Mina to prepare the garden for tea, the perfect setting for her performance. She wanted everything to be just right.
When Kim and Serene arrived, Amber greeted them with a weary smile. They settled around the circular garden table, the afternoon sunlight filtering through the trees, casting soft shadows around them.
Kim immediately leaned forward, her face full of concern. “Amber, what’s going on? You sounded devastated last night. What happened with
Callisto
Amber inhaled deeply, letting the weight of her supposed despair senle in the air. “Callisto… it’s been a while and it’s late to tell you this now but… he woke up from his coma” Her voice trembled, and she bit her lip as if trying to hold back tears.
Serene gasped. “He woke up? That’s.. that’s a good thing, isn’t it
Amber shook her head, her eyes downcast. “He woke up with amnesia. He doesn’t remember me. He doesn’t remember us.”
Kim reached for her hand, her expression pained. “Oh no, Amber.. I’m so sorry.”
“That’s not the worst part” Amber paused, letting the suspense hang in the air. She could feel their anticipation, their need to know more. “Cassian told me something. Something that broke me. She glanced between her friends, making sure they were hooked. “Callisto has a child with
Lorraine.”
Both Kim and Serene gasped, their faces reflecting the shock Amber had anticipated
“Lorraine?” Kim repeated, her voice barely above a whisper. “His ex–wife? How how is that even possible!”
“She must have seduced him before the accident, Amber said, her voice soft but filled with emotion. “I had no idea. And now, now his father wants him to come back. I’m afraid they want Lorraine to bring the child, too.”
Serene’s eyes widened in disbelief. “So, what does that mean for you! For your engagement)”
Amber let out a shaky breath, allowing a few tears to slip down her checks. “I don’t know, Serene. I should be happy that he’s coming back, but how can I be? Knowing that he has a child with her… it’s too much.”
Kim squeezed her hand tighter. “This is awful, Amber, How could they do this to you? You’ve been by his side through everything
“I know,” Amber murmured, wiping her eyes delicately. “But now… I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to lose him, but how can I compete with Lorraine! Especially with their clükl”
Serene frowned, leaning in. “You shouldn’t have to compete, Amber. You’re his fiancée and you guys have Anjie too! Lorraine is old news. But…. what are you going to do?”
Amber sighed, looking down at her teacup. “I just want to protect what’s mine. I’ve worked so hard to build a life with Callisto and Anjic. I can’t just let Lorraine waltz back in and ruin everything. But what if everyone sees her as the victim! A mother, coming back to her child’s father….I’m terrified that people will pity her. That they’ll forget about me.”
Kim’s expression darkened. “Amber, no one will forget about you. You’ve been through so much for Callisto. If Lorraine tries to come back into his life, she’s the one who’ll look bad, not you.”

Serene nodded in agreement. “Exactly. And we’ll make sure everyone knows what kind of person she is. It’s not fair for you to be pushed aside like
Amber smiled faintly, hiding her satisfaction behind a mask of vulnerability. This was exactly what she wanted. She knew Kim and Serene loved to gossip, and soon, everyone would know about Lorraine’s return. By the time Lorraine showed up with Callisto and their child, the narrative would be set–Amber, the heartbroken fiancée, wronged by the woman who abandoned Callisto,
“You two are the only ones I can count on.” Amber said, her voice trembling slightly for effect. “I just don’t want to be painted as the villain when all I ever did was love him.
“Don’t worry, Amber, Kim said firmly. “We’ve got your back. Everyone will know the truth. Lorraine won’t be able to show her face around here without people knowing what kind of person she really is
Serene nodded. “We’ll make sure of it.”
Amber took another sip of her tea, feeling the weight of her friends‘ loyalty. They didn’t know they were playing right into her hands. Soon, the story of Callisto’s ex–wife and child would spread like wildfire, and Amber would be seen as the victim, the wronged fiancee who was simply trying to hold onto the man she loved.
As the sun began to set, Kim and Serene said their goodbyes, promising to keep her updated on any gossip they heard.
Once they were gone, Amber stood in the garden, watching the fading light. Her expression shifted, the sadness slipping away, replaced by a cold, calculating smile.
e her as the innocent
Let them talk, she thought. Let them spread the word. By the time Lorraine comes back, it will be too late. No one will see mother. They all hate her.
As the sun began to set, Kim also said her goodbyes. Just as Amberwas about to return to her room, Mina’s frantic voice echoed down the hall
“MA’AM AMBER!!!” Mina was running down the stairs, trying to reach her
“Easy! What’s wrong Nammy?” Amber asked, full of curiosity.
“It’s Anjie! She fell down the stairs and her head is bleeding?“.
