Lorraine squeezed her eyes
and let out a deep sigh. The weight on her chest was unbearable, but she was done feeling the pain of the past.
From the very beginning. Lorraine had always sensed something off abour Cassian, Callisto’s younger brother. The way he looked at her, how his tone changed when it was just the two of them–completely different from when others were around. And then, there was the way he’ll get a little. bortouchy. Lorraine knew he had appropriate feelings for her. It was unmistakable.
When she started dating Callisto, Lorraine hoped that Cassian’s behavior would stop, but instead, it only got worse. Hiding behind the guise of being ‘in–bws, Cassim began harassing her more openly. There was that one time when Lorraine was taking a shower in her and Callisto’s room, completely alone, and Cassian brazenly opened the bathroom door. Through the glass he saw her naked. He never apologized. Instead, be casually excused his belovim by saying he thought his Imother was inside. After all, Lorraine wan’t usually home, so he didn’t expect her to be there
But that wasn’t even the worst of
When she got out of the bathroom, Cassian was still there, lying on Callisto’s bed while Lorraine was only wrapped in a bathrobe. Callisto walked in at that exact moment, but instead getting upset, all he did was express mild surprise and ask Casin to leave the toons
Lorraine knew how close the two brothers were, and she didn’t want to rub that bond. But as time went on, she realized she couldn’t keep it to herself any longer. That’s when she finally told Callisto der Cassian had been harassing hier.
But Callisto’s reaction wasn’t what she had expected. He didn’t get angry; in fact, he seemed indifferent to the entire situation. The only thing he said, which gave her the slightest bit of relief, was that he’d warn Cassian to stay away from her.
Who could’ve guessed that Callisto would eventually start thinking she was the one having an affair with Cassian. He never believed her. Instead, he accused her of cheating and retaliated by having an affair with Amber.
Now, Lorraine couldn’t bring herself to forgive or forget, no matter how hard she tried to convince herself that she had moved on from all of it.
She forced herself to stay strong for her two innocent boys, who had no idea what had happened. As their mother, she would do whatever it took to protect them from the ugly truth.
“Gideon, report to me.” The m
e moment Gideon answered the call from CEO Avelling, the deep, raspy voice on the other end was laced with tension. The seriousness in Avellino’s tone caused Gideon to drop the toy sword and shield he was holding, which he had been using while playing with Lucian and Lucio as they watched a Marvel movie.
Despite moving to a quieter spot, Avellino hadn’t missed the giggles and high–pitched voices of the boys in the background. Once the noise died. down, he knew his loyal dog had stepped away to somewhere more private.
Clearing his throat, Gideon began his report. “There’s still no change in Callisto’s condition, sir. His memory hasn’t improved at all. He’s the same as he’s been since waking up, constantly sticking close to Lorraine and their two sons.
Avellino let out a deep sigh. “This is bad. I need him back. The company needs him. If he doesn’t return to his duties soon, I’ll be buried under this workload Gideon, I’m too old for this. I need his help. There are too many eyes on the company right now, especially that rebellious Moore kid.” His voice grew more strained with each word “And on top of that. Caroline’s daughters are making everything worse. Not only do they contribute nothing to the business, but they’re also spending my money like there’s no tomorrow. Cassian helps a little, but he’s too young too inexperienced. He’s not ready to run the company.”
Gideon could hear the mounting frustration on the other end. “I understand, sir. But convincing Callisto to return won’t be easy, especially since he’s determined to avoid Amber. I spoke to him about it, but he’s made it clear he won’t prioritize anything until he and Lorraine reconcile.”
Another deep sigh came from Avellino Silence filled the line before the older man finally made a decision. “If that’s how it is, then he leaves me no choice. I have a way to bring him back
“Excuse me?” c
Gideon felt a wave of unease wash over
Avellino continued, his tone matter–of–fact. “Moore’s daughter, Amber–the one engaged to Callisto–has been pestering me nonstop. She’s desperate to find out where he is. If she can convince him to come back, that would be a win for me.”
Gideon’s eyebrows furrowed. “But Amber’s a scandal magnet, and Callisto’s furious with her. If she and Lorraine cross paths, it’ll be a disaster. It just make things worse. Mr. Avelling”
“Legally, Amber has more of a claim to Callisto. Who knows! Maybe she’ll be the key to restoring his memory. He needs to stop chasing after Lorraine. Nothing’s changed between them anyway,” Avellino said sharply. “I can’t wait any longer, Gideon. Amber and Anjie will be showing up soon. Be prepared.”
“But Mr. Avellino-”
