Chapter 42
“I can’t believe this, Mom! How could Dad just abandon me like this? How could he do this to me?” Amber’s frustration was palpable as confronted her mother.
Contrary to Amanda’s earlier report that her daughter was on the verge of losing her life due to depression, Amber was now full of energy–though it was all channeled into anger. She was desperate to see Callisto, yet her supposedly wonderful father ignored their pleas and threats alike, leaving both Amber and Amanda feeling helpless.
For the first time in her life, Amber was facing her father Henry’s unyielding stance. And it had to happen now, just when she needed him the most
she was at her most desperate.
It wasn’t just about getting Callisto back; she also wanted to slap Lorraine in the face for daring to take him away. It had been a month since then, and she was certain that Callisto had nowhere else to go but back to Lorraine. Yet, her wretched sister seemed to be enjoying the company of her ex–husband
What was she trying to do? Get revenge on her because Callisto had chosen her instead? Haf
Just because Callisto lost his memory didn’t mean they would get back together–Amber wasn’t going to let that huppen.
Amanda slumped onto Amber’s bed, deep in thought. After a few moments, she finally voiced the suspicion that had been gnawing at her mind.
“You know what Amber?” she said, almost hesitantly. “I think your father and Lorraine are in contact. I even suspect they’re secretly meeting
Amber raised an eyebrow. “Well, it’s not far–fetched that they’re seeing each other–oh, wait Her eyes widened with sudden realization. “Mom, we need to watch Dad’s every move! We have to catch him meeting with Lorraine so we can finally figure out where that witch is hiding Callisto!”
“Right. We don’t have any other choice but-
Their conversation was abruptly interrupted by a loud knock on the bedroom door. B
Both women fell silent, waiting for the person outside to speak.
“Open the door, it’s me. Henry’s voice resonated through the room, startling them both.
Amber quickly lay back down on her bed, pulling the covers over herself, while Amanda stood up, waiting for Amber to settle before she walked over to the door and opened it.
“Hey,” Henry greeted as he stepped inside. His eyes immediately caught the chaos in the room–overturned furniture, scattered belongings, and untouched food beside the lampshade. Amber lay on the bed with her back to him, wrapped in a blanket, and the atmosphere was undeniably gloomy
Amanda’s eyes were sharp as she stared at Henry. “You better have some good news for your daughter, Henry,”
Henry ignored her and instead walked toward Amber’s bed. He stood tall and stern, his eyes devoid of any sympathy for his daughter’s current state. He believed she was making herself suffer, so he had no intention of coddling her.
“Don’t you think there’s something more important you should be doing right now, Amber! Instead of sulking here, why don’t you try to focus on your own child, who needs you the most right now! You’re being too selfish! You’re only thinking about yourself, he scolded her
Amanda reacted instantly, slapping Henry’s arm. “What’s wrong with you!! Did you come here just to say that?”
Henry frowned and looked at his wife with anger. “And you! All you ever think about is this spoiled brat of yours! Doesn’t anyone remember that Anjie’s birthday is next week? The poor kid is already feeling neglected because of how careless you two are! But no, all you ever care about is Callisto and Lorraine!”
“You wouldn’t understand what I’m going through!!” Amber shot up from the bed, her eyes red with tears. She glared at Henry, her voice full of pain. “Do you really think I don’t care about Anjie?! But you have no idea how much I wish that for her upcoming birthday, she could have her father with her! I wish our family could be complete! But because you and Lorraine are keeping Callisto from us–my fiancé and the father of my child–this is what I’ve become! And now what? I’m still the one to blame?!”
Henry’s lips pressed into a thin line, but Amber didn’t let him speak.
“What I don’t understand is why you’re so protective of Lorraine now! Why do you have to shield her from me as if you think I’m some monster who would devour her!” “Tears streamed down her face as she refused to look away from her father. “Is that really how you see me, Dad?! Fine, I admit it! I have a bad temper! But I also have my weaknesses when I’m hurt this badly!*
Amber’s tears were real, and anyone who
saw them might have been moved by her pain. But Henry knew his daughter too well, he knew how skilled she was at manipulating others by playing the victim.
“I can’t force Callisto to come home. So if you’re truly desperate-

“Of course, you can’t convince Callisto to come home on his own. Dad!” Amber exploded, jumping out of bed to face Henry properly. “He has amnesia, doesn’t hell The only person he remembers is Lorraine, not me!! So how do you expect to convince him to come back?r
Henry’s eyebrows knitted together in frustration. I can’t help you achieve what you want then. That’s why I’m telling you, ask for help from Caroline or Frank, Callisto’s parents. After all, Callisto needs treatment; use that as an excuse to get them on board. From what I know, as long as Callisto is with Gideon, they’ll feel secure”
Amanda was irritated by what Henry said. She grabbed him and tumed him to face her. “Are you serious, Henry!! You know I had a falling out with Caroline! And as if Frank cares about that bastard son of hist
“You fell out with Caroline because even she started to catch wind of the dirty tricks you were playing on Callisto, didn’t she?” Henry retorted sarcastically before letting out a frustrated breath. “Don’t expect me to be the one to clean up the mess that you and Amber created. And don’t think you can involve me in your schemes to ruin Lorraine’s life again!”
“Lorraine! Lorraine! Lorraine! That’s all you ever talk about Amanda screamed as she slapped Henry hard across the face. “Fine, Henry! But from now on, don’t you dare interfere with what Amber and I plan to do, understand!! If you won’t help, then don’t you dare try to stop us!”
“Amanda-”
“Get out!! Get out of here before I do something I’ll regret. Henry! Leave me and my daughter alone and get out!!” Amanda shoved Henry out of the room, leaving him with no choice but to leave
After that, Amber had a breakdown. She threw a fit until there was nothing left in her room that wasn’t destroyed. It wasn’t until she was sobbing on her bed that Amanda linally approached her daughter to comfort her.
“Don’t worry, Amber, we’ll figure this out. Let Lorraine and Henry be together, but I won’t abandon you, Let’s not rely on Henry anymore; I’m sure Lorraine has already poisoned his mind.”
“M–Mom, I want Callisto bark. Please, I just want to see him?
“I know, I know, baby,” Amanda hugged Amber tightly, gently rubbing her back. “We’ll go through with the plan. We’ll find out where they really are once Henry and Lorraine meet again”
