Chapter
Gideon let out a deep sigh when he saw Gallisto drowning himself in alcohol on the hospital rooftop.
He had been frantic earlier, searching for Callisto everywhere, only to find him in this dangerous spot. He was immensely relieved that Callisto hadn’t decided to jump off the rooftop, leaving a corpse for him to find.
“Where’d you get that booze?” he asked, sitting next to Callisto on the concrete, his tone serious but concerned.
“Bob got it for me,” Callisto replied honestly.
“And why are you getting plastered now! Don’t you know it’s bad for you, especially since
“What’s the point anyway! Callisto’s lips curled into a bitter smile as he stared into the void. “I feel like I’ve already lost them–those peo
people dear to me. B–But this is so unfair….” His voice cracked, and he took another swig from the bottle.
Gideon sighed deeply again at Callisto’s state. He couldn’t deny that Callisto had committed a grave mistake against Lorraine. But it wasn’t entirely Callisto’s fault, and he shouldn’t be the only one suffering now.
Gideon grabbed an unopened bottle of alcohol beside Callisto. He had already downed three bottles. It seemed like Callisto was determined to get drunk, so Gideon decided to join him to provide some comfort.
“You should’ve stopped me from cheating, Gideon, Callisto said after a while. “You know how much I love Lorraine Why’d you let me cheat on her just for Amber!”
“What can I say? Maybe because I’m not even allowed to interfere with your decisions. Besides, back then, I thought what you did was justified.”
“What?” Callisto’s thick brows furrowed “Are you serious right now!”
“Yeah”
“Did you encourage me to cheat on Lorraine or what? Callisto’s eyes blazed as he grabbed Gideon by the collar.
“No. You cheated because you were heartbroken, man,” Gideon said, removing Callisto’s hand from his collar. “But you never told me everything. Just that Lorraine was having an affair and that’s it. You cheated because she cheated first. Of course, I told you it was wrong and you shouldn’t do it because I didn’t want you two to keep hurting each other, but you never listened. I saw how hurt you were, drowning yourself in alcohol. There was no day or night for you, you just kept drinking even during important business trips. You kept everything to yourself until you lost it and chose to file for divorce. That’s all I know.”
Callisto stared at him, full of doubt and wonder. When he finally pr
furrowed
processed what Gideon said, he looked away, his forehead deeply
“Impossible. That can’t be it, Callisto murmured, confused. “Lorraine… she couldn’t have cheated on me.”
“But it already happened: Gideon sighed again. “Believe me, Callisto. Lorraine wasn’t the only victim here.”
