Chapter 6
“Is it hard for Mommy to remember she has a home? Why does she keep forgetting she has twins to take care of?”
Lorraine’s heart softened as she listened to her son Lucio’s voice message. His voice was so gentle and sweet. She pressed play on the next message.
“You heard Lucio, Mom? It’s been days since he started missing you so much that he can barely eat his meals! When are you coming back home? Lucio misses you!” Lucian’s sharp and annoyed voice followed, filled with frustration.
“Mommy, Lucian’s the one who misses you more–Hey! Turn it off now–r
A smile spread across Lorraine’s lips as she listened to the last message, and she let out a deep sigh.
She knew that Lucian often used Lucio to play the sympathy card. Lucio had always been the sickly one since birth, almost constantly in and out of the hospital, which made Lorraine develop a special soft spot for him. Lucian, on the other hand, was active, brave, and rough–often the troublesome twin. He knew exactly how to exploit her soft spot for Lucio to get what they both wanted.
It was their way of manipulating her, and even though she knew it, she always fell for it. What could she do? She couldn’t resist her two sons. With their incredible cuteness and high 10s, the always gave in.
It had only been a week since Lorraine traveled to a distant city for the opening of a new branch of LorriGlow Cosmetics, her company that had been steadily growing over the past three years. But she guessed that one week was too much for her five–year–old twins, especially Lucian.
Although he was the strong one, Lorraine had unintentionally neglected him, having to focus on Lucio’s deteriorating health. She began to understand why Lucian always used Lucio as an excuse to get more of her attention. Of course, she felt bad. It was her first time being a mother, and with twins no less, and no father present to help–it was too much for her. She also had to work tirelessly to provide for their needs.
Mona had been a huge help in watching over the twins ever since they were little, allowing Lorraine to continue her work as a therapist. Three years ago. Lorraine had the opportunity to revive her own cosmetics business, which she first started when she was only eighteen. Despite its past failures, with the help of Wayne, one of Mona’s grandsons and a successful businessman, it has now become successful. Now, as the business grows more popular, Lorraine finds herself busier than ever, leaving her with only a small amount of time to spend with her twins.
She replied with a voice message, “Mommy misses you too. I’m on my way home now, babies! I’ll bring home Hawaiian pizza for Lucian and deliciously healthy veggies for Lucio.”
“That’s not fair, Mommy! Doc Cady said I’m healthier than ever, so why can’t I have pizza too!!” Lucio replied within seconds, his voice not as sweet as before. It almost sounded like Lucian. She couldn’t help but laugh at how quickly he broke
character.
“Oh, honey, I’d love to give you pizza, but we both know it will upset your stomach, and you’ll end up in the bathroom for am hour. Mommy would hate to make you sick, so no. I promise the veggies I’m bringing this time are delicious and have an enjoyable taste!”
She received another message with Lucio making whining sounds, as if throwing a tantrum, and Lucian laughing mischievously in the background.
“Mom, come home safe! There have been a lot of car accidents these past few days with winter coming! Tell Uncle Hector to drive extra carefully!” Lucian sent in a voice message.
I brought warmth to Lorraine’s heart, and she felt like tearing up. She missed them so much! And yes, one week was also too much for her to be away from her twins.
“Got it! I love you, Lucian, Lucio. Don’t worry, the next time you wake up, Mommy will be there! Take care of each other. okay? Listen to Mona and don’t give her a hard time cleaning up your mess. Love you”
Chapter 6
Six years had passed quickly since she left New York to live in Los Angeles. But now she’s back in her hometown for business. She couldn’t help but feel nostalgic, a slight sadness tugging at her heart. After the divorce years ago, she never thought of contacting her family or in–laws again. She had blocked them out of her life, and who knows what happened to them now.
Maybe they’re still sailing their ships, especially since the Avellino family’s business is quite popular these days. Lorraine never read magazines, newspapers, or articles, nor did she watch any news if she heard the family name mentioned.
She was about to exit the hotel building while contacting Hector to ready the car when a familiar voice and face stopped her

took a step back, gasped for air, then turned around and headed back to the elevator.
“Wait! Please!”
She hurriedly pushed through the crowd and managed to close the elevator doors just in time.
When she returned to the city, she wondered what the odds were of running into someone from her past. Well, she had just come face to face with her biological father carrying a little girl!
Was it. Anjic?!
“Shit!” she bit her lower lip while her hands rested on her pounding heart.
Of course, she felt nervous and shocked. They had a good father daughter relationship before, but he was one of the people. who betrayed her!
He looked… quite old now, with fully grown gray hair and a wrinkled face, not how she remembered him.
