Chapter 2
A week shipped by, her only sustenance being a sip of water to keep her going. She couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, and couldn’t even muster the strength to leave her bed; it was as if she were paralyzed. All she did was cry.
“Lorraine, you’ve got to eat something. You can’t keep this up. Come on, try to eat a little”
She heard her grandma nanny’s pleading voice, but she couldn’t bring herself to care. Tears flowed endlessly whenever she remembered her husband’s and family’s betrayal. She buried her face in the pillow and sobbed loudly. “Nanny, Callisto cheated on me with my sister Amber. The niece I’ve been taking care of is actually my husband’s child!! What’s even more painful is that Mommy and Daddy are keeping it from me to protect their favorite child! It hurts so much, nanny. If only I could rip my heart out, I would have done it!”
“Lorraine,” her nanny, hugged her. She gently lified her face so she wouldn’t suffocate on the pillow, wiping the tears from her face several times. “Go ahead, let out all the pain you’re feeling until you get tired and numb. Just cry… cry out all the pain.”
“I–It hurts! They hurt me, nanny. They conspired against me!” It felt like her heart was being crushed with intense pain. “H- How could they do this to me? What did I do wrong?!”
“You’re not to blame. That’s why you shouldn’t be the one suffering like this, her nanny comforted, gently rubbing her back. “But this isn’t the end. You’re still young, and your life doesn’t end with Callisto. You’ll meet many who will truly love you and never hurt you like this.”
She shook her head as she sat up on the bed. With emotion and desperation, “Nanny, there’s something I haven’t shared with you… I’m pregnant with Callisto’s child. Tears streamed down her face. “I’ve been pregnant for a month, and only my doctor friend knows. Nanny, what should I do? I–I don’t know if I can handle losing Callisto because of this baby I’m carrying. B–But he already has another child, and he chose that child and Amber. What do I do now, Nanny? M–My life feels like it’s falling apart…
“Oh my goodness!” she exclaimed. First of all, you shouldn’t talk like that; it’s not over! We’ll figure this out… I think about it. I’ll help you with whatever you need! Right now, you need to take care of yourself. Eat, shower, get out of bed! Everything will work out…I promise, Lorraine.”
Her
nanny took care of her for almost a month in her own home, far away from her parents, Amber, Anjie, and Callisto, as well as the others involved in their deception and betrayal. She was the only person she had to turn to, always there for her as if they were truly blood–related because of how close they were.
“Can you, Amanda, give Lorraine some time to relax and think things through? Do you think she’s ready to talk to you right
now?”
“Monal Lorraine is my daughter, so let me handle this. Ask Lorraine to come out so I can talk to her and help her understand what’s going on.”
She peeked outside the door from the bedroom to see her mother and nanny arguing in the living room. It was past ten o’clock at night, yet her mother still barged into the nanny’s house and entered as if she owned the place. If not for Hugo, the nanny’s grandson, Mommy wouldn’t stop searching through the house.
“What’s not clear here? Your daughter Amber, a homewrecker, ended up pregnant by Lorraine’s husband! You, as a parent, kept quiet about it, tolerated them, and pretended to be a family hurting Lorraine in the process! The truth is as clear as day!” Nanny said.
“Hey, old woman!” Mommy pointed her fingers at her. “Don’t you dare call Amber a homewrecker! It was just an incident that happened between her and Callistol
“Nonsense!” Nanny retorted. “Don’t point fingers at me, Amanda Since Amber was young, I noticed her flirtatious ways, always seeking attention from men! Do you remember Lorraine’s first boyfriend? Didn’t she seduce him? Did you hear anything from Lorraine? Nothing! She left it to her sister and came crying to me! So I wasn’t surprised when I found out that even her husband was seduced by your daughter!”

“Watch your mouth, Menal Mom was about to slap Nanny when Hugo stepped in and stood between them.
“Mind your manners, Madam Don’t disrespect my grandma in her own home, Hugo warned Mom.

“Ugh!” Mom blushed with anger, still glaring at Nanny. “It’s not Amber’s fault that she’s prettier than her sister! It’s not her fault that men are drawn to her! Callisto pursued Amber and Anjie himself! We didn’t push him. That was his choice. If Lorraine doesn’t accept that reality, things will only get worse, and the innocent child will be more confused. If Lorraine doesn’t face it, nothing will change because her husband hasn’t loved her for a while! In fact, he’s been planning to divorce her, but he couldn’t because Lorraine was too oblivious!”
“Is that how a mother should act, Amanda Nanny asked, disappointed. “You’re hurting your eldest daughter even more. You’re showing favoritism even though you know it’s wrong. I’ve seen your unfair treatment towards them from the start. Don’t you realize that Lorraine loves Callisto deeply because he’s the one who truly brings her joy? He gives her the attention your family fails to provide, and most importantly, he taught her what real love is. Do you understand that for almost ten years, they’ve been through everything together, from strangers to a couple, and then marriage? Do you think it’s easy for Lorraine to give up everything for Amber?!“.
Tears trickled down her cheeks. She never expected Nanny to be aware of everything all this time, while her own mother remained clueless.
Reflecting on it, Callisto and she had been together for a long time. Maybe that’s why the ache in her chest feels so overwhelming now. These tears just wouldn’t cease. They flowed like rain, uncontrollably. The pain was excruciating; her eyes were so swollen that she could barely open them properly She felt worse than someone who had been physically harmed./
She returned to the room, seeking solace in a quiet corner by the wall, where she could weep in solitude.
After a prolonged silence, she heard her mom’s voice from outside. “Callisto has already prepared the divorce papers for Lorraine. He’ll talk to her when she’s ready, as he’s set on ending the marriage. Callisto cares for Amber and Anjie. So, she hoped she could find the strength to let go. It’s best to move forward sooner rather than later. She shouldn’t drag it out, especially now that Callisto and Amber are preparing for a wedding.
She covered her mouth, stifling a scream. Her chest constricted, and she trembled as she struggled to remove the ring from, her finger. “W–Why?” she gasped for breath as she tried to take of the ring. “Why are you hurting me like this, Callisto?”
