Chapter 7
Perhaps Sheldon himself hadn’t noticed.
Whenever he mentioned Winter, his eyes would light up and he unconsciously
smiled.
This look was very similar to when he confessed to me eight years ago. He said that I was the moon he wanted to keep for himself.
Remembering that scene, I couldn’t help but laugh at myself bitterly.
The moonlight was too dim, ultimately not as dazzling as the sun.
He had once cherished his love for me, but now his affection had shifted to someone
else.
I raised my head and gazed calmly at Sheldon. My voice was steady as I asked.
“Sheldon, do you think you still love me?”

He nodded without hesitation and said
excitedly.
“Of course, Nora. I’ve always loved you.”
I smiled when I heard that, but it was a bitter smile.
I shook my head slightly, dismissing his
words.
“I don’t think so.”
“Sheldon, I’ve seen you love me. So I can tell at a glance when you don’t.”
“Don’t lie to yourself. There’s no need.”
Seeing my unwavering stance, Sheldon grew visibly anxious.
He stepped forward, trying to defend
himself.
“No, Nora. Maybe I’ve been neglecting you lately and that’s given you the wrong impression.”
“I’m willing to apologize. I promise I’ll stay by your side for the rest of my life.”

“If you’re uncomfortable with Winter being. so close to me, I can reassign her to
another department instead of keeping her as my secretary. Okay?”
It seemed as though Sheldon was doing everything he could to mend our relationship. Yet, his every word betrayed his true priorities.
He could never bear to hurt Winter and
always thought of every possible way to protect her.
Winter actually couldn’t join the company with that kind of skill.
But Sheldon ignored the senior staff’s protests, skipped her probationary period and directly gave her a permanent position.
He had once said that the company must follow the standard hiring process and
never cut corners.
Yet, Sheldon repeatedly crossed his own
lines for Winter.

The Sheldon I used to admire was upright, kind, brave and sincere.
Now, he felt like a stranger to me.
Disregarding his promises, I replied coldly, “That’s between you and Winter. It’s none of my business.”
After that, I ignored Sheldon’s forlorn expression and walked away.
I could only hear him shout from behind
- me.
“Nora, trust me. I won’t give up!”
I pretended not to hear and quickened my
pace.
The following day, there was a knock at my door.
I opened it to find Sheldon, looking disheveled, standing on my doorstep.
I frowned and asked in annoyance, “How did you know I live here?”
Sheldon smiled at me, holding up a

shopping bag like he was presenting a trophy.
“I asked someone at the company.”
“Let’s not talk about that now. I’m sure your parents aren’t used to foreign food yet. I made breakfast myself, especially for them.”
Before I could respond, he had already pushed past me and let himself in. He set the breakfast on the table and glanced around the room.
“Where are your parents? I’d like to say
hello to them.”
I raised my head in surprise, unable to
believe these words came from Sheldon’s
mouth.
The first time that Sheldon met my parents was in college.
After we started working, no matter how much I pleaded with him to meet them officially, he refused. He always said we

weren’t at the stage of talking about marriage yet, so there was no need to rush.
Thinking back now, I realized he was just avoiding taking our relationship to the next
level.
