Chapter 6
Aunt Connie dropped to her knees in front of me, tears streaming down her face.
“Sweetie, I’m begging you. Please, just give back the jewelry–or at least return the money you took from us!”
Her pitiful little act worked like a charm. The crowd was eating it up–some fuming at me, others practically in tears over how “selfless” she and her husband had been.
Bystanders couldn’t stand to see them “suffer” like this.
And of course, the finger–pointing started.
“Look at them–they’re too kind to even call the cops on her! People like this don’t lie. She’s so damn lucky to have them in her life!”
“Yeah, I heard they quit their jobs to take care of her when she had no one. They even gave up having kids for her sake! And

now she’s turning around and betraying them? What a cold–hearted, ungrateful
brat!”
“She’s so heartless, isn’t she? Look at her standing there like a damn corpse. Can’t see a shred of guilt on her face! People like her deserve to get hit by a truck!”
“No kidding. When she dies, she’s going straight to hell, and even the devil won’t want her. Her poor parents must be rolling in their graves from the shame!”
Uncle Hubert and Aunt Connie lowered
their heads, milking every second,
perfectly playing the role of wounded
saints. But, of course, they still had to “defend” me.
“Don’t be so harsh on her! She’s just a child.
She doesn’t know any better.”
And that? That set the crowd off.
“Child?! She’s almost 30! What kind of child
is that? Screw that lame excuse!”

“Exactly! What, she thinks she can play the
innocent little kid card to all this?
Pathetic!”

The insults kept coming, louder and nastier with every word.
I knew what this was–knew their game, their lies, their fake tears. But even knowing all that, standing here, surrounded by their bullshit and the crowd’s insults, I couldn’t shake the suffocating weight pressing down on me.
I took a deep breath to steady myself. Then I pulled out the property transfer records. and turned to face the live–streaming
camera.
“Let’s set the record straight! ‘You all wanna know who the real liars are? It’s right here in black and white. This villa they’re claiming as theirs? My mom and my dad left it to me! After my parents died in an accident, these so–called ‘relatives‘ tricked me into signing it over to them!”

“I’ve never had to steal a damn thing. My parents gave me everything–a home, money, everything!”
Finally, the air went so still you could hear a pin drop.
For the first time, a few people started to speak up for me.
“Wait a second… this document looks legit. Look, it’s got an official stamp and everything. Maybe we’ve got it wrong.”
“Yeah, if all of this belonged to her anyway, why would she need to steal? Maybe these two are just after her parents‘ inheritance.”
I thought, finally–finally, people were starting to see the truth. I hoped it would be enough to shut these traitors up, to make them back off. But no.
Cheryl snapped. Before I knew it, she grabbed the papers from my hands and shredded them into confetti right there in front of everyone.

Before I could react, that lunatic towered over me and shoved me to the ground with
a sneer.
“You and your fake documents! How long do you think you can keep this charade. going? We didn’t expose you before because we treated you like family. But now? Now you’re using these forgeries to slander your aunt and uncle? Too bad for you–I’m not gonna let you hurt them any more!”
“Bruh, you’ve really crossed the line. You cheated your way into college, cheated to graduate, and now you’re forging documents to dodge charges? God, I’m ashamed I ever called you a friend!”
And, of course, my backstabbing boyfriend had to chime in, sticking to their script like the puppet he is.
“Exactly! What, you think you can pull the same stunt you did to get that job here? Newsflash, not everyone’s as dumb as you think. Just own up to your crimes already- there’s no other way out of this!”

Same old crap.
Just another excuse to pile on their lies and drag my name through the mud.
I’m so damn tired of their bullshits.
And yet, just like that, the crowd turned against me again.
“My god, so she’s a repeat offender? Faking government documents now? She’s got
some nerve!”
“Yeah, someone needs to dig into her background. This girl’s definitely shady- probably cheated her way through everything!”
“Exactly! She’s been stealing since she was a kid. Faking documents is probably second nature to her!”
I stood up slowly, meeting their eyes with a cold, steady gaze.
“You done? Had enough of your little act?”
“You really think I don’t know exactly what

the hell you’ve been pulling?”
With that, the room went still. The silence hit like a slap.
