Chapter 6
As night fell, Jeff complained of boredom.
Since he hadn’t been back in the country for a long time, I decided to take him out for dinner and show him around.
As soon as we stepped out, someone stood up from the doorway.
Jeff instinctively threw a punch.
Hearing a cry of pain, I realized that Connor had been there all along.
He clutched his eye, leaning against the wall.
He croaked, “Tara, I don’t agree to the breakup, and you can’t be with someone else.”
His words made me laugh in disbelief.
I said, “There’s no option for agreement or disagreement. I made it clear when I said I don’t want you anymore. That means I

dumped you. Understand?”
“Why? Weren’t we always good together?”
he asked.
I could tell he was really confused.
I retorted, “What do you mean by ‘good‘? Me being quiet, understanding, and stepping aside?
“Connor, in a three–person world, the only one who feels good is the one enjoying all the benefits.”
“Tara, it’s not like that between me and Katie. Let me explain,” Connor insisted.
His face was pale as he reached for my
wrist.
I dodged his grasp, and Jeff kicked him in the stomach.
Jeff cursed, “You cheating bastard!”
Connor staggered back several steps but managed to stay upright.
He shouted, “I didn’t cheat. This is between

Tara and me. It has nothing to do with you,
an outsider.”
Seeing Jeff roll up his sleeves, ready to fight, I held him back.
I said, “Don’t flatter yourself. Now, you’re the outsider.”
With that, I pulled Jeff away.
“Tara,” Connor called out, grabbing my hand.
He gave me that pleading look. It was something I couldn’t resist before.
But he forgot that was only during the first two years of our relationship.
After the company grew, he became distant and superior.
I shook off his hand and stepped into the elevator without looking back.
He tried to follow, but the elevator doors closed just as he reached them.
Jeff let out an exasperated sigh. “Tara,

what’s going on between you two? This guy is like a leech.”
He was right.
I used to think Connor would be happy if we broke up, so he could be with Katie openly.
Although they hadn’t been secretive before, I was still an obstacle.
To spite him, I told Connor I was dumping him.
That would bruise his ego.
But now, his persistent pursuit seemed more complicated than just anger.
“Forget it, let’s not think about that jerk. We’re out to have fun,” I said, trying to shake off the unpleasant encounter.
Jeff winked at me and started fiddling with his phone.
When I tried to take a good, he hid the screen from my view.

“Hey, even though you’re my sister, you still need to respect my privacy,” he said.
I rolled my eyes and took out my phone to search for nearby attractions.
Before I could find anything, Jeff said, “No need to search. We have a guide.”
I looked at him, puzzled.
Just as I was about to ask what he meant, the elevator dinged open, and Jake appeared with a sunny smile.
He said, “Ms. Levy, I heard you want to go sightseeing. If you don’t mind, I can be your guide.”
There was no reason to refuse such an
offer.
As Jake turned around, I glared at Jeff.
It was clear he had been scheming behind the scenes. I just didn’t know when he had exchanged contact information with Jake.
