Chapter 4
I looked down,
“BlueSky“, the gem set in the ring, had been auctioned off to a mysterious buyer for thirty–five million dollars. I never imagined it would be Kevin.
He bent down to pick it up, his expression slightly awkward. “It must have been Amelia who carelessly left it in my car. I’ll return it to her another day.” He probably thought I didn’t recognize it.
However, I studied jewelry design in college and had been keeping an eye on the market for years. I was familiar with the value of such expensive jewels.
understand. Young girls are often careless,” I replied nonchalantly, suddenly feeling a bit unwell in my stomach.
He tried to lead me into the restaurant.
1 want to go back.”
“Maria, can you stop being unreasonable? You just said you understood. Why this sudden temper?”
“My stomach hurts…”
I was in such pain that my face turned pale. If Kevin had shown a bit more concern, he would have noticed.
l’endured the pain and finished eating, urging Kevin to take me home quickly.
“What a downer. You spoiled my dinner. Is your time more valuable than mine?”
On our way home, his phone rang. It was Amelia calling.
“Kevin, where are you right now? I went shopping with a friend and couldn’t find a ride home. It’s so hot out there. Can you come pick me up? I’m going to get sunburnt.” Kevin’s lips curled into an indulgent smile.
His voice was uncharacteristically gentle as he spoke, “Wait for me. I’ll be right there.”
Seeing Kevin getting ready to turn around, I placed a hand on his wrist to stop him. “Don’t go.”
Maria, what are you into now?”
His face darkened, and his eyes were full of anger. “You don’t get to tell me what to do!”
1 brought you along precisely to avoid any misunderstanding. I’m being so considerate, and yet you’re being petty.”
“When will you be as sensible as Amelia?”
He abruptly stopped the car. “If you’re not coming, then get out of the car. Don’t waste my time.”
“Take me to the hospital first. After we get there, you can do whatever you want. I won’t interfere.”

I could feel blood trickling down below. “Amelia won’t die from a sunburn, but I might die if you don’t take me to the hospital!” “Maria, enough. Before, you used chest pain to gain my sympathy. Now you’re using death as a threat? I’m going to pick Amelia up now I want to
if you really will die!”
I was so frightened that my eyes reddened, and I felt I was bleeding heavily. I cried out in desperation, “Kevin, please. I’m begging you I’m pregnant and bleeding. Take me to the hospital!” “Pregnant?” He snorted. “How can you possibly get pregnant?”
“To keep me from seeing Amelia, you really stop at nothing.”
Just get out of the car. I don’t want to see your face again.”
Kevin pointed at the car door, yelling, “Bleeding? You look fine to me. Don’t dirty my car!”
Bearing the pain, I tried to open the car door, but he locked it again.
“Are you sure you won’t come with me to pick up Amelia?”

‘m not going!”
Fine! If you won’t come with me today, we’re getting a divorce. If you can’t accept the people around me, then I’ll cut you out of my life.”
*You’re divorcing me?” I hadn’t brought up divorce yet, and he was the first to mention it only because of Amelia.
*caught my breath. “Fine, if that’s what you want, we’ll get a divorce. I’ll let you be with Amelia.
“The divorce papers are already drafted by my lawyer. Til give them to you another day
Kevin looked at me incredulously. “You had the divorce papers ready all along?”
