I covered my ears, trying to escape, but that sound was like
steel needles, piercing my heart one by one, leaving it riddled with holes and drenched in blood.
Finally, I fled in tears, running away in panic.
My heart twisted in agony, I could barely breathe.
I took a deep breath to comfort myself.
It’s okay, soon it won’t hurt anymore.Seven days from now, I’ll completely forget about Dane, and I’ll never feel heartache for him again.

Perhaps it was the thrill of their public encounter that made it hard to leave, but Dane hadn’t come home for two days.
I welcomed this tranquility, going to the hospital alone for pré–surgery tolerance tests.
The electroshock therapy was excruciating; even at test strength, it was unbearable.
In just two days, I lost ten pounds, and my memory became spotty.
Worried I might forget important people, I prepared a thick notebook.
I pasted photos of family and close friends, meticulously writing down things I wanted to remember.
As I was finishing this memoir, Dane returned.
He walked in while I was barefoot on the carpet, organizing photos.
Dane rushed over, scooping me up in his arms like a princess, holding me tight.
“It’s so cold, what if you catch a chill?”
He played with my feet, lovingly pecking them.
Like holding a priceless treasure, he pressed my icy feet to his chest to warm them.
“I’ve been busy preparing a new documentary with the TV station, I’m sorry, sweetheart.”

As he leaned in, I caught a faint floral and fruity scent.
It was Aria’s favorite perfume.
A wave of nausea hit me, and I turned away coldly.
He wasn’t busy, he just couldn’t tear himself away from his indulgence.Dane thought I was just being moody. He casually picked up the memoir.
“What made you decide to write something like this?”
I smiled halfheartedly. “I’m afraid I might forget. I want to record all the meaningful things.”
His expression suddenly turned hurt. He asked, half–jokingly and half–seriously, “Will there be a day when you forget me too?”
Dane, who hadn’t even flinched in the face of wolves and tigers during wilderness survival, was now treading carefully, trying to please me.
Just one answer from me could easily sway his emotions.
I blurted out, “What if I really forget?”
His expression tightened. He held me close, as if trying to knead me into his very bones and blood.
“Melody, don’t scare me. I can’t live without you.”
“I’ll love you forever.”
Just as I was unsure how to respond, his phone rang, timely saving me from the situation.

saving me from the situation.
Dane glanced at the number, his expression momentarily unnatural:
It’s the TV station calling. I need to take this.”
I nodded woodenly, inwardly letting out a cold laugh. Dane, how can you make grand promises of eternal love to me, while contentedly enjoying another woman’s body?
Even though I had already seen through his hypocrisy, I still felt a tinge of disappointed hope.If I were to turn a few more pages, he’d discover
that in my writings, even a kitten I’d kept for just a month had a few sparse pages dedicated to it, yet there was nothing about him.
Sure enough, as soon as Dane left, I received another message from Aria.
“Melody, sis, you see? Even if he comes back to you, what difference does it make?”
“With just one phone call from me, he’ll leave you.”
I took a deep breath, set down my phone, and turned to pack
the things I needed for my hospital stay and surgery.
It’s okay,
In just four days, I’ll be free.
No more heartache from Dane’s clumsy lies.

With just one day left until the surgery, I suddenly experienced á migraine. Dane immediately called for our family doctor.
I lay dizzy in bed, and noticed that the young nurse assisting the doctor with medications and tools was none other than Aria.
She wore a snug, delicate nurse’s uniform that accentuated her curves, giving her a distinct allure.
Dane completely ignored her, remaining steadfast by my bedside, refusing to leave even for a moment.
Aria seemed unbothered, only flashing a challenging look when
passing by me.
The doctor gave me a sleeping pill. Worried it might affect tomorrow’s surgery, I kept it under my tongue without swallowing, merely closing my eyes to feign sleep. After a short while, I heard the door close as Dane left.
I silently got up and cracked the door open just a sliver. There I saw Dane gripping Aria’s throat, forcefully pinning her against the wall.
“I warned you not to upset Melody,” he growled.
His tone was exceptionally harsh, and his grip tightened.
Aria struggled to breathe, her face flushing red from the strain. Teary-eyed, she bit her lip and said:
“Dane, the doctor said that pill would make Melody sleep

I just wanted to spend some time with you. I didn’t mean
anything by it.“She blushed, pulling open her coat to reveal a cloud–like expanse of white tulle.
My heart skipped a beat, my clenched fingers nearly piercing my palm.
What she wore was the wedding dress Dane had spent a year preparing for me…
Dane’s eyes darkened, a crimson desire igniting within them as he raised his hand and struck Aria hard across the face. “How dare you wear Melody’s wedding dress!”
Aria, unfazed, replied in a seductive tone, “Isn’t this more exciting?”
“Dane, your body is far more honest than your mouth.”
Before she could finish speaking, Dane yanked up her skirt,
throwing her onto the carpet. His expression twisted, like a wild beast in heat.
Through the thick door, I silently listened to the
earth–shattering sounds from outside.
Dane tore my wedding dress apart with his own hands, the
pristine skirt crushed beneath their bodies.
Aria turned her head towards my room, her voice completely unrestrained.
Though I had resolved to forget everything, the searing pain in

my chest felt all too real..
To create a one–of–a–kind wedding dress for me, Dane had risked his life the year before, personally traveling to a South African tribe to acquire diamonds, nearly losing his life in the process. The dress hem was adorned with exactly nine hundred and ninety–nine South African diamonds, all personally cut and polished by him over an entire year.
He had promised that his love, like these diamonds, would never fade.
Sadly, while the diamonds remained unchanged, the person had
not.
Outside the door, the noises continued to ebb and flow. I
silently knelt on the floor, shredding all the photos of Dane and
me into pieces.
Our first date,
Our first sunrise together,
Our first time cooking together,
Our first anniversary…
All these memories, now bid farewell.
After finishing everything and lying on the bed, I received a
message from Aria.
“Sis Melody, you’re not asleep, right?”
“I wanted to be quieter but Dane doesn’t care if you hear at all.”
