Chapter 5
A deep, soothing voice rang in my ears.
I turned my head to see Jerome. He was wearing a matching white suit, with a flower pinned to his chest.
Jerome helped me stand steady, gently patting my shoulder.
“Why are you all wet? Go change into the other wedding dress.
“I think yesterday’s mermaid–style dress suited you better.”
He leaned close and whispered in my ear, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
I gradually calmed down.
Arnold was stunned for a moment. Then, he sneered mockingly, “Sara, you really are something. You even managed to get Mr. Emmerson to join your little act.”
Jerome stepped in front of me, blocking Arnold’s view. “Are you Sara’s friends? If you want, you can stay and witness our happiness.”
I picked up my marriage certificate, which had fallen to the ground earlier among the crowd. Upon closer inspection, I noticed a few smudges
on it.
Jerome took the certificate from my hand, carefully blew on it to remove the dust, and then teasingly said, “Sara, I’ll keep this for you in case you lose our marriage certificate.”
He carefully tucked the certificate away.
Arnold scrutinized us from top to bottom, then gritted his teeth and asked, “Mr. Emmerson, how did you and Sara meet?”
There was an edge to his words.
I didn’t understand. I was marrying someone else, no longer pestering him to go through the motions with me. Wasn’t that exactly what he
wanted? Why was he still so angry?
Jerome smiled and patted my hair. “It was actually me who asked someone to introduce us.”
I recalled a few days ago when a colleague had introduced Jerome to me and insisted I go on a blind date with him.
Arnold’s face turned even darker, and Esther, who was in his arms, winced in pain and murmured, “It hurts, Arnold.” He finally released his grip.
Tyler couldn’t help but mock, “Mr. Emmerson, although you two are getting married, I still have to remind you that just a while ago, she was begging Arnold to marry her.
I couldn’t take it anymore. “Yes, I once liked Arnold, but I don’t care about him anymore.
“Why? Is Arnold such a catch that I’m supposed to be ridiculed for liking him? Does liking him mean I’m stuck with this for the rest of my life?”
Arnold’s face turned ashen, and the tension in the air around him thickened.
“Sara, what do you mean?”
Jerome only smiled faintly. “It just means Sara is a devoted person. But that was in the past. Who hasn’t liked the wrong person when they
were young?”
Esther forced a smile. “Sara, this is your fault. You should’ve introduced us to your husband earlier, so we wouldn’t have to worry about you like
this!”
Their expressions were sour.

TU.40 PM
Jerome turned to address the guests.
“The wedding was delayed because of some issues, which led to some misunderstandings.
“But please believe me, I truly love Sara. I will do everything in my power to make her happy.”
We exchanged rings, and Jerome took out a larger diamond ring from his pocket and placed it on my finger.
“This ring is named ‘Solar‘. Sara, you’re my April days, bringing me warmth and sunshine.
“Someone can’t appreciate you, and that was their problem. But because of that, I had the chance to love you.”
No one had ever said anything like this to me before. My eyes instantly welled up with tears. Looking into Jerome’s eyes, filled with deep affection and sincerity, I felt a stir of emotion and surprise.
We had only met a few days ago, yet it felt like we had known each other for a long time.
But I simply thought he was saying all this to defend me in front of them, not taking it too seriously.
